Not a Good Idea to Share Your Email on Here

I think it was explained by someone on here previously that it's not safe to share your email on here. I noticed one member did and then deleted it soon after, but, I saw it and many others did too I imagine. Their account has since been deleted and it makes me wonder. I only realised they had left as I was looking for an interesting thread about quartz and other stones, jewellery etc. Can you obtain more information about someone via their email? Thanks very much

We always recommend people don't share their personal details on LD as a precaution because it's public so anyone can read it - not just the person you might be trying to share your details with.
There's nothing particularly risky about sharing your email address (after all, anyone you email will get a copy of it too!) but it can make you a target for email spam/scams and/or potentially make you a target for people trying to login to accounts that use that email address (this is mostly an issue if you use simple/easy to guess passwords!). The risk isn't because there are a bunch of evil people lurking on LD - it's because people write computer programmes that automatically scour the internet for email addresses.
Someone's account on LD would only be deleted at their own request so I don't think it's connected to them having shared their email address.
