Not Travelling by Car Where Would You Go to on the Train ?

I totally agree with you , much more pleasant to travel by train (in normal times !) . You can even have an alcoholic drink while watching the scenery go past .

In general if you live in the South of England or the Midlands a trip to Inverness via Glasgow and Perth (west coast line ) or to Aberdeen via Edinburgh on the east coast line give unmatched scenery.

Did them both many times when I was stationed in Morayshire ,although most of the time on the night sleeper .

There is still a fair amount of enjoyment to be had on train journeys once you get away from the daily commute on them (which I accept can be dire ! ).

We once took the night train from Euston to Inverness it was fantastic as when we woke up it was to breathtaking beautiful scenery.

I would also recommend the Heads of the Valley, South Wales, as again the scenery is stunning.

For longer UK journeys I prefer travelling by train. There is a nice scenic stretch of track going along the coast at Dawlish. I'd like to take a trip along the West Highland Line going over the Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter Bridge).

I'd love a train trip fron london to Scotland.

I get free rail travel as I work for a TOC, my son loves a day just travelling around the network, up to London then down to the coast and around, a big circuit of the south

Obviously we haven't done that this year as its not essential although the cleanliness cant be faulted

I would do rail and sail, get the train to Ayr, then the bus to Stranraer and then the ferry to Belfast to visit family. Or I would get the train from Edinburgh to Inverness to visit family and friends.

I used to go from Stirling to Inverness on the train all the time when at Uni and used to go to from Stirling to Glasgow for uni by train too. Loved a train journey, you could just sit back, watch the scenery, listen to music, read a book, do uni work etc and not worry about anything other than getting off at the right stop.

I want to say thanks for some of the ideas of the journeys as when life does get back to normal me and my family we go all over the country and we want some ideas at where to go to next.

I'd go to Andorra, but you'd have a hard time travelling around without a car.
