Official! Covid is Over!
In the News
The government has said that if someone with COVID-19 coughs in your face, you don't need to isolate anymore.
So Covid must be over and not a risk now, right?
Glad to hear it. Won't bother getting a booster jab if offered. Going to go to the football, raves etc.
Well done people, we have come out the other side where it looks like we can't catch the dreaded virus now.
Haha! I am assuming you are talking with tongue in cheek. Unfortunately that is exactly what people will think if they just hear the headlines.
Grannyclock If it's in the news, it must be true!
Everyone with Covid is welcome to mine for a party because I obviously can't catch it now
Judging by the lack of masks in shops these past couple of weeks I'd say you are right.
And before someone says "yeah but you don't have to wear masks in shops anymore" - No, you don't, but wearing one protects shop workers and other vulnerable people.
blacklabrador I find it depends on the shop. Far more masks are worn in our Sainsburys than our Asda!
Most people here are wearing face masks even outside near the waterfront. It’s a relief to see folk are still trying to stay safe.
Unfortunately a lot and I mean a lot of people will believe this and then I can only imagine the results after...
In Wales masks are still law in public places like shops, doctors, public transport as like they say ppl whom are vulnerable have to go to doctors, shops and use public transport. Whereas if they are vulnerable they are unlikely to go to these big raves, football stadiums.
IonaJones MrsChimp works in a local shop and there's a continuous thing with people not wearing masks, especially the kids and the old people.
If I was the owner, I'd kick them out straight away, but as the owner isn't there to deal with it, it's always money to them, so f*ck the employees
TheChimpDon't get me started on 'the government' .....I doubt very much that that's right and here in NE Scotland we seem to be continuing in a sensibly cautious manner ... however, today our very elderly new neighbour came to the fence to welcome us and held out her hand .... it would have been so rude not to shake and I was amazed how good it felt to be naturally friendly in the 'old way' ..... it's been so long since I touched a non-family member.
TheChimp heck ... that's bad news! I think I'm just really fortunate that honestly everyone I know/have any contact with .... all seem to want to play safe. My 90 year old dad is dead easy going and never worries, but even he masks up, distances and is generally sensible and aware.
My sister rang to say her 11 old has been diagnosed with Covid, I was still under the impression that the whole family had to isolate. She told me that was no longer the case as they had been doubled jabbed. But they were going to until they got their own results back.
This seems to make the last year seen pointless
beccatavender Nope, if you are in contact with someone with COVID-19, you do not have to isolate.
Been reading the figures on new infections today and things aren't looking good.
It's all a balancing act between the economy and how many lives will be lost. Most double jabbed people are protected against severe symptoms and needing to go to hospital. They can still get it and create high viral loads for other people though. There is some logic to actually getting the delta variant now because the vaccine protection is starting to reduce but if you actually get this new virus it will boost your protection where as if you get it when your vaccine protection is low it could be much more serious.
There are just so many variables in trying to work out the best way to proceed. I will keep wearing a mask though to protect others.
5k cases reported yesterday. There are over 66m people in this country, easy maths. I still wear a mask on the bus and in big supermarkets. I am a believer that it is a danger. But, greatly exaggerated by the powers that be.
The NHS is and was always desperately under funded and under supported.
Hence the hospitals being overwhelmed.
I have had both jabs without hesitation by the way.
Just my opinion.
davey184 Over 6.5M have had the virus so far and cases are increasing at high levels every day.
And these 'controlled' gatherings don't seem to be working either. Over 1K people have tested positive after going to the Latitude festival and that's just the cases that have been recorded.
BBC News - Latitude Festival: More than 1,000 attendees test positive for Covid
Covid will never go away and it is something we will eventually have to learn to live with. On the other hand, I do understand how serious the impact of this virus can be and that we should all continue to take necessary precautions; such as getting vaccinated, washing our hands, self isolating whenever we need to and so on.
And yes, I will certainly isolate if someone with covid was to cough in my face.
Oh dear
Thinking of you, my Scottish friends.
Gonna be even worse in the next week for all of us UK with the Bank Holiday weekend, festivals and schools going back.
Strap yourself in, guys. We're off for another Covid ride.
My husbands currently COVID positive and is extremely ill. He's one of the shielded patients, extremely vulnerable to be precise and has followed all Govt guidelines etc. Its so damn frustrating to think he's probably picked this up due to the lack of people who are just doing as they please nowadays
I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever .....
‘I was thrown in jail and a mental institution, then deported from Singapore… for not wearing a Covid-19 mask’ https://www.rt.com/op-ed/533288-singapore-citizen-deported-covid-rules/
COVID is here to stay people should be respectful and wear a mask at all times in crowded places. It’s no wonder why COVID rates are high it’s those self centred people who don’t wear masks
I am bewildered at the conversations coming out of some ministers mouths.
I need to pay for the privilege to get on a plane but covid is over, I cannot see a doctor face to face even though Ive had both jabs but covid is over .
Our Mp last week did a Seniors fare for over 50 and in his advertisement for the fare he put that he was helping to bring the normal back to the town I live in as covid is now over but then in the same advert he said that they had covid vaccinations were available at the event .
Well done on raising the point TheChimp .
I just injected a load of bleach like Donald trump once said and I've been fine. but I've been clean for two weeks now so happy days
My daughter has just tested positive and it seems crazy that everyone else in the household is allowed out as normal. The adults are double jabbed (but I have a public facing job- very close to people) and the children are under 18. It is a complete about face to how it was before.
At some point everyone will have to realise that Corvid will not disappear and we are all going to have to live with, so what is peoples solutions on how we proceed?
As my daughter tested positive yesterday it definitely not over for my family. Amazing that my wife is at work today in public facing job and I am free to go shopping or do what I want. Scotland shows what we can expect with the schools returning.
We would definitely not Agree with the U.K. governments Policy on double vaccinated people not having to isolate Unless they have symptoms or test positive. Crazy that our other children will be expected to return to school on Friday.
Its crazy how relaxed the govt is with covid, but then they have already decided they can accept a large number of deaths so dont worry. For those of us on strict self isolation its a nightmare. Boris might not care how many die - but I dont want any of my family to be on that list.
