I don't keep pets so am the last person to give advice. All I know is that I could not bear this going on in my home but as it would never happen ..........

I have mentioned my garden cat problems many times and have tried every trick in the book. I bought a high pitched cat repeller and found a nice little parcel right next to it yesterday. Any good will toward our furry 'friends' is negligible and neighbours don't care or don't know that their cats use other people's gardens as toilets.

The only reason I would have an animal put to sleep is if they were in a great deal of pain or discomfort, and there was nothing the vet could do for them. Have you looked into having the cat rehomed? There are people who specifically take in elderly animals or animals with health issues, to give them a nice home for whatever time they have left.

No, as others have mentioned that is a natural thing that comes with age. It happens with many dogs and humans and we wouldn't put them down because of it. Would only put a pet down if they were in a lot of pain and there was no treatment.

Thank you for replys for now the cat is going to have own spot of house. The vet has said that for a examination then would have to be sadated due to aggressive.

For me pet is a family member. And its the same if you would put to sleep some family member in old age. Can put to sleep animal if only it suffers from horrible pain .

I personally think that the only reason you would put a pet down is due to medical issues, is the incontinence due to an underlying health issue ?

There are lots of positives to having cats, they can help people relax and stop them being lonely which can extend their life. In the past they hunted and killed mice and rats which prevented the spread of many diseases which would have allowed many millions of people not to have died of such diseases. I have two cats which I have to clean up after with one occasionally vomiting but its not a big deal. I love having them around. I've seen so many cats grow old and suffer failing health such is the disparity between a cat's lifespan and a humans.

I agree with the late Patrick Moore who said a catless house is a soulless house.
