What to Do with Old Clothes?
Ask a Question
My local charity shop has closed down so I'm not sure what to do with my old clothes that might not be worth selling on ebay.
Any ideas of what to do with it?
Advertising them will be best on free sites will help local charities like womans aid and homeless
Find a free site local to you where I live we have one it's fab as the admins also do prize give aways for people that are active
Turn them in to a blanket for the winter. That what I would do. Like a patch work one. Or make a bag. Or dye them. Then you got some new clothes. Make cushions.
Ask your local shelters, particularly women's shelters, if they can take them. Often women and children who stay there arrive with very little clothes
I know It Is really difficult for women and children in that situation. I have been in a similar position myself a few years ago and will be forever grateful to a friend who gave me some of her clothes.
As others have suggested it would be worth seeing if any shelters can accept them, also if you have old towels and bedding the dogs homes will always have those x
Iβve tried advertising some better condition clothes on vinted but Iβve not had any luck selling so I will no doubt get bored of waiting and take them to the charity shop like i normally do
Do you have a local recycle centre- most of these centres have Salvation Army bins for old clothes
We do have some bins locally and that might be the best choice, but sometimes they are completely full.
Try other charity shops such as Triad, as they have now reopened. As someone said recycling centres have clothes banks as do supermarkets & you also find them on high streets etc
Zuharah welcome, if you go down selling route donβt forget you can also sell on shpock & Gumtree. If bins full people tend to leave clothes in black bags next to them
clothes bank bins.
i cant be bothered with being messed around with people collecting then not turning up. or giving someone in need and see them flogging it.
drives me nuts
Give them to charity...
The give the baby clothes and girl clothes to relatives and friends.
Stick them in a charity bin somewhere, i'm sure there are plenty about. Never use enviroclothes though, family member took loads of the clothes and they went through the bag and only selected certain clothes they wanted and surprise surprise they wanted the designer stuff but not the plain cheaper stuff.
Thank you for the info about enviroclothes. I don't know much about them but it is dissapointing to hear that they wouldn't take the regular stuff.
Any good with a sewing machine ? Turn them into face masks/coverings , you could even sell them then . Plenty of patterns around on the internet , might even make a few bob .
That is actually a great idea. I made myself a face mask and when I posted a picture on fb, someone asked me where I had bought it. I made one for her but only charged for the postage since it was not exactly professionally made
If you want to you could donate them, I posted this a few days ago; Post Your Donations to BHF for Free

Check where your nearest charity shop or maybe a local clothes bank might be available at your local supermarket
I donate mine to lord whisky cat and dog sanctuary helps feed the animals as Iβm a animal lover
You could take them in to H&M. They give you a voucher for Β£5 off Β£25 spend. But that means buying more clothes!
I believe you can add multiple vouchers to your account for Β£5 off Β£25 for every bag you drop off in store.
Most of my old clothes are old and would be no good to anyone. My husband uses some as cleaning cloths.
Most of mine either go to the charity shop or to the local school jumble sale. I have to admit most of my clothes I wear until thereβs not a lot of wear left
Old clothes just take up all my storage areas around the house. I know I should clear them out but I think Iβll wear it someday.
supermarkets normally have clothes containers next to bottle banks, we also get a bag through the door for diffrent charities to put clothes in and leave outside. i'm also sure there is more than one charity shop a bit further a field..
