Old Diabetic beagle.... Advice Greatly Recieved.

Other

My 9yr old beagle was diagnosed last year with diabetes and I don’t want to put her through daily insulin injections. She’s coping pretty well even though she is now totally blind and seems happy and still tail wagging all the time. We’ve adjusted her diet to the recommended diabetic food. Just wondered if any fellow dog lovers have any advice ? Please be gentle this is my first post ! 😊

Hi nipperjwb and welcome to latest deals. I had a dog that was diabetic. Every day I had to check her wee. And what a game to get it. Tub in one hand and wating. She know why I was wating but after hour I got just enough. Then I had to dip the stick in. Then I had to give her insulin. Some time it was a high dose some times it was normal dose. That's why we had to check her wee for. And we were told buy the vets not to get her worked up. Like playing with her or chasing her. Because this would bring on a fit. She was 8 when she got it. And she lived to 13 years old. It's not easy to keep a dog with diabetic because you have to make sure she do not over eat. Want I find easy was not to eat in front of her. And that helped. And I also made sure food was put away. And bins away with lids on. 🐧

Thank you so much for your reply. I have been worrying about her life expectancy so you have certainly put my mind at ease and it sounds like I’m pretty much doing all the right things. Thank you.
