I love some of the old fashioned names Can you name some?
I've got Maude, Henrietta, Franklin and Clive. I don't know if Clive is old fashioned but it seems rare.
Can you think of any? Maybe you can take inspiration from your ancestry

In our small village and round about we have quite a few kids with old fashioned names. Hattie, Freddy, jockey, Isabella, ruby, Annie, molly, Alice
I love some of the older names. My gran was called violet and my other one was called Alice
I think it's good to have family names, my name is Rebecca after my Grandmother, my Mother was Elizabeth after her Grandmother. That is if you like the name ......my mother in law and she didn't like her name Ada.
On the male sides there are lots of Johns, David's and Thomas's. If someone has done your family tree look to see if there are any you like.
In my family history most of the names are things like George, William, Mary and Ann, which you still hear some today. Then there’s names like Freeley and Welley that I can’t imagine making much of a comeback.
I’d say some of my favourite “old fashioned” names would be Clifford, Desmond, Agnes and Dorothy. I also love Clive though - I’m surprised it isn’t more popular when you consider names like Ivy and Olive are popular again these days! It seems to fit in with those in my mind.
I found quite a few Lancelots in my family tree when researching. I'd always thought of that as a upper class name previously. Iv never actually met anyone called Lancelot. I think the names Jean & June have died out somewhat. Iv not met anyone by those names in recent years yet I knew a few elderly ladies by those names as a youngster.
I have a granddaughter called Effie and I’ve just come across it in an Agatha Christie book.
Elsie, Dora, Amos, Nona, Gertrude, Percival, Mervyn, Kenneth (Ken), Flora, Walter, Arthur, Edith, Clara, Hattie, Clementine, Bertram, Nora, Augustus, Agatha, Cyril, Howard & Jezebel, Sampson, Vivian, Evelyn.... I could go on.
My own name - Geraldine! I was meant to be called Anne Marie, but my father went to register my birth on his own and decided on Geraldine. There’s not many of us around.
I haven't seen that program but you see, the name is out there, probably more than we think. Have a lovely day Geraldine.
After reading all people’s answers it is amazing what we perceive as ‘old names’. Many that are mentioned are names of friends of mine but I didnt think I was that old!
Queenie ,Wilfred ,Enid , Lidia are some more people I know and my cousin’s daughter is called Josie
My grandson is called Ron. People are surprised at first but I can't imagine him with any other name.
My nana was Muriel but she hated it and shortened it to Moo which I think is worse!
Maximillion, Hubert, Fannie, Frederick, Augustine, Blanche, Pearl, Vera, Esther, Mabel, Gilbert, Sigmund, etc.
ACR Can you imagine the grief your child would get these day though if you called them Fannie?
I wonder if anyone has been named Fannie/Fanny in the last 40 years in the UK, USA or other English language speaking countries. However, it's still in use elsewhere in the world. For example F*nny Cadeo (Italian actress), F*nny Blomé (Swedish Model), F*nny Lú (Colombian singer), F*nny Smith (Swiss freestyle skier), F*nny Rinne (German hockey player), etc.
ACR We used to have a neighbour who married a chinese lady. The chinese lady had a niece who was called sh*tting! I can't imagine anyone english giving their child that name!!
My gran on by mum's side was called Isabel and everyone used to call her Izzy. My Welsh gran on my dad's side was called Olive. Lovely names for lovely ladies but neither are with us anymore.
Ones I like are Laura ,Emily,Emma ,Charlotte, and the florals Rose ,Violet ,Daisy Victorian names

My friends daughter is called Elsie. There's quite a few 'old' names at my boys school - Betty, Genie, Violet, Wilfred, Elise, Vincent, Ada, Elijah.
My family tree we have Marjorie, Bazil, Ada, Ciryl, Clifford.
Not a really old fashioned name but really detest the name Keith, who would name their beautiful baby Keith! ...sorry if I offended any of you Keith's out there.
I know someone who called her kids Hugo and Monty as she wanted unusual names. They suit them.
I love my husbands Granny's name, Beryl. It's not one that you hear often anymore. If we had had a girl I would have used it.
