Old Topics Appearing at Top
Ask a Question
Could something possibly a expire date on how long a chat stays active for be done on a new update Kelsey.
Evening
Chat is sorted by the topics with the most recent comments. The rationale being that if someone replies to an older topic nobody would see it if it wasn't bumped up to the top.
I could certainly look to see if I can add in an option so that people can sort chat to their own preference?
Is there a particular situation/topic that caused you to create this post?
The possibility of sorting chat could be good if not too hard to set up ? I do enjoy the chat tab.
Kelsey I don't think it would improve chat for everyone to be looking at a different personal set up. Two things that would help to keep it fresh and interesting would be no points for chat and progress on the ability to follow other members. This was promised quite some time ago.....any progress?
Any chance that topic points could be made void if the original poster doesn't come back to the chat more than once? It's been quite common to see 'regular' members never coming back to their topic. The 'talk amongst yourselves' posters are blatantly abusing the points system.
There is also another habit that's becoming frequent and that is the topic poster making the first comment on the thread - Why?
It can be interpreted as the one-and-only re-visit to their chat or just collecting points.
Like many others I would really like to the the 'versus' and the either/or titles banned.
This old burger ad is how I sometimes feel........
An option to sort the chats sounds good. Sometimes I've missed newer discussions because they've got bumped down to the next page by lots of older topics. It'd be nice to be able to sort them somehow.
I don't see an issue with that. It just means someone has searched Chat for a specific topic. Rather than create another chat thread for something that may have already been posted many time before. For example Netfix related, Tea vs Coffee type questions, etc.
That is not the case here. Have a look at the comments and you will see what I mean.
Actually I have been pleased to notice hardly any tea v coffee type comments lately but the Netflix ones drive me insane....enough already!
Lynibis I am now tired of the numerous topics where the OP asks for birthday gift ideas. I understand that it can be difficult on deciding at times, but surely you would know a lot more about that person than random strangers on the internet would do? Why not ask people who actually know the person well?
RegularComper90 I agree. We have had all manner of birthdays and someone the other day asking for gift ideas for the whole family....how the heck are we meant to give advice on gifts for a family we have never met. Could even be of a different culture. You can't suggest alcohol for someone who is teetotal!
Ann1984 I wouldn't like to see topics expired as sometimes old ones are interesting if something worthwhile is added, but not in the case you are referring to. This person is, to be blunt, contributing nothing worthwhile.
If we expire old topics we would lose some popular ones like the comp wins, lilyflower thread of daily smile, motivation and my own book club one which people go back to occasionally.
I see what you mean surely there is something that can be done like save a chat like we can with deals. I have been told that alot of the chat topics get put on fb maybe to get more members
Ann1984 not sure I agree with that. Surely the op should have to give permission.
Well, not all members contribute to chat so it shouldn't be too onerous to have a page of chat members usernames and you could click on their name. It could then take you to their topics or comments say, within the last month.
There would be too many and would involve a member of staff having to read every one as title often gives no idea of content.
RegularComper90 of all the members on the site I just knew you would be thinking like a naughty elf..... got your popcorn ready?
sunny101 You know me well. And yes, I have plenty on hand.
Be prepared to find a topic dating back to 2016 appearing up the top. x
Edit: Looks like the really old topics have been removed and the oldest actually dates back to only 13 months ago. Oh well, better than nothing.
RegularComper90 somebody important has been reading......... you've been thwarted.!
