Olio.
Ask a Question
I've just posted my first irem on Olio.
I really couldn't just throw good food in the bin again
Does anyone have any experience with Olio, good or bad?

I haven't but I've just downloaded it see what it was and there is loads in my area gonna have a good look at it see what's about

That very good of you to give food away to others. It's a shame that food wastage is so high when there's many who need it.

I’ve not used Olio. I downloaded the app but there wasn’t anyone local using it.
You could try giving it to food banks. See if your local supermarket has a drop off box or anywhere else in your area.

snoogans888 A good thought, but I'm not going to go out of my way to drop off a pack of ham to anywhere.

TheChimp oh I didn’t realise it was ham you had to give away. Food banks only take long life goods. You should have chucked it in the freezer for another day.

snoogans888 I'm trying to empty the freezer tbh so I can buy a new one.
Mine is over 20 years old and costs a fortune to run compared to the new ones.

snoogans888 The way that Foodbanks have been able to become normalised is the one thing that's always really got on my goat and I point blank refuse to give them anything.

TheChimp ah right. I never seem to be able to empty mine. Hope you find a good deal on a new freezer!

pato oh wow that’s quite a strong opinion about food banks. I’ve never come across anyone who’s thought of them negatively before as I only have seen the positive impact (a guy around the corner from us runs one).

Oh, it's an app about giving stuff away.
"Olio" in other languages means oil or olive oil so that made me wonder.

PhilipMarc Yes, it's an app giving stuff away as well you know
No-one picked up my stuff, so in the bin it will go.
Gutted.

Loads of good and some bad but managed to clear house of quite a lot of stuff .Also got some things as well.

MelissaLee1963 Good to hear.
It's a shame that Olio isn't used around this area.

TheChimp Popular in London. We all love a free lunch lol and its a good way of recycling furniture and stuff as well. I am amazed though at the number of people who request something for free then don't show. That's just rude in my book.

I have never heard of it before, but I don't really think I'd be going out of my way for a packet of ham.

pato You just don't get it.
I put my ham on Olio, and anyone in the area can pick it up for nothing. It's a freebie.
I'm not being cheeky, It's just you being a fool
If you don't know what you're talking about, don't comment at all.
Would you rather me throw the ham in the bin or someone use it?

TheChimp You honestly don't get it, you were being cheeky and by then implying that I'm a fool, you're just being impertinent, Personally I couldn't care less what you done with it, I merely said that I hadn't heard of the App but wouldn't go out of my way for a bit of ham, maybe I should've praised you for giving something away.

pato You basically said that Olio was no good because you wouldn't go out of your way for free ham. I've offered it and anyone could have it for nothing. What is your problem?
Maybe you've got enough money to cope at the moment, but a lot of people don't.
I'm just doing my bit and you should wind your fmm neck in.

TheChimp I don't have a problem and my neck has always been wound in, I didn't try to antagonise you with my comment (I didn't mention Olio and have no opinion on whether is good or not, and to be fair having unsuccessfully tried to give away one item, I'd say you're not best suited to trying to suggest that I learn first before speaking), I appreciate that people give away items to save them from landfill, but I'm sure there are a lot more people than me who haven't heard of this App and also a lot more who wouldn't go out to get the items either, again there is no need to insult.

TheChimp You're Excused, as I'm not one to hold a grudge, the App does sound good in theory but will have a limited amount traffic in specific areas due to lack of knowledge of the App, but maybe someone will take the idea and create a local messenger group near you as it'll make it easier to reach those that could use your goods.

I had Olio in the old area where we lived, but hardly anyone where we were had it and I have a feeling even less people would have it in our new area. I do think it is a good idea but most people where I live put things on fb for free so don't think it is worth me getting again.
