Did Any One Else Get Emailed by Latest Deals Today?

Update from Admin - please see how to verify email address >> HERE
I was emailed at 12.33pm saying I needed to verify my email address to 'help keep my account safe' and also to claim vouchers my mobile number needs to be verified. I wasn't sure at first if it was a scam. I did verify my email address, but I haven't done my mobile. I don't want to be giving over my mobile number as I get so many scam phone calls that my phone is set to contacts only can get through. Where is my number going to be stored? What will be done with my number? I can't see any topics up talking about this. Did any one else get this email?
Hey Sherrifffroggy
Update - there is a Chat thread about it here
Apologies this email went out sooner than we anticipated and so haven't made a chat topic about it yet. There are two new account checks we're introducing to Latest Deals:
- Email verification to share deals and chat topics. This is to try and reduce spam on Latest Deals.
- UK mobile verification. This is only required if you want to claim a reward. This is to a) Help protect members accounts from unauthorised access. b) Reduce the number of fraudulent or duplicate Latest Deals accounts.
The mobile numbers are only used for verification. They're otherwise securely encrypted and stored on your account (the idea is you verify your mobile number once, then at the point of claiming a reward we'll quickly send a text message with a code to verify it's really you). This is the only purpose for using your mobile number. It is not used for marketing or any other form of contact. Just verification codes for rewards and account recovery.
Hope that helps - we'll make a proper chat topic about it shortly when the security rollout completes
Kelsey I hope this does stop duplicate accounts and ai they spoil things for the rest of us.
Love the site
Imnotcheap Thanks for the kind words
We've got a few of these more sensible/boring updates coming along to try and help with those issues.
Then hopefully some more exciting things in the pipeline too!
Kelsey I just confirmed email and phone number. Im currently 89% towards next voucher so good timing for me.
Imnotcheap I've just done mine, and I'm 86% towards my next reward, I must admit that the notification did take me by surprise, and I wasn't sure if it was genuine, as I think the opening line was something like 'to claim your next reward'... and my thoughts were, I'm not ready to claim my next reward, is this a scam, so a warning would have been good, my posts get taken off quick enough so I would expect any upcoming site update would be the same!!
I've just received the notification for email and phone number, it was straight forward, only took a minute to do
Mine went into Spam If members haven't had the email it may be worth checking their spam. Luckily I checked but only after seeing this chat.
lilyflower Thanks for the tip There should also be an on-site/app notification. And a message pop up to verify your email if you try and do something needing verification (like sharing a deal).
The verification methods are all available via the website. App updates are coming shortly
I did the first email but missed the second. (I think) I was busy doing something else. . How do I check please?
I'm glad you wrote this as the first thing I did was question it and leave it for a while until this came up . Although it's good to see a notification now too so you can verify it's real.
Yep got my email this morning to confirm email & phone number, however I've just had my Amazon voucher that went towards buying a Keter Storage Shed for the garden as my wooden shed was literally falling apart. Thank you Latest Deals
Kelsey Thanks for explaining. Even though the email address the email was sent from did look legit, I did wonder if it was real or you had been hacked.
