Thought it was lovely. It's very difficult for anyone to know what to say at a time like this but I thought she managed fantastically.

I watched. . . what she said couldn't have been said better, it's hard to believe she'll be 94 on the 21st of this month.

Hi daviadstockport yes is hard to believe she is coming up to 94. She not age much over time. But Prince Phillip has age a lot over time. πŸ€—

Hi Johnny hope you are keeping well and safe . Well put to getter. And the end bit was very touching when she said we will all meet again. From the song white ciff of Dover. 🌾

nicolajaynehend Yes, We'll Meet Again is a 1939 British song made famous by singer Vera Lynn, and one of the most famous of the Second World War era. I'm not sure if the Queen realised Lynn's recording is featured in the final scene of Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film Dr. Strangelove - with a bitter irony, as the song accompanies a nuclear holocaust which wipes out humanity.

Johnny The song "(There'll be Blue Birds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover" is actually an American song, the lyricist (Nat Burton) didn't know (and didn't take the trouble to find out) that Blue Birds are not indigenous to the UK.

Escaped budgies don't count☺☺☺

davidstockport I read it's likely that the blue birds were meant as an allusion to the American pilots flying from English airfields: the allied planes had their underside painted sky-blue for camouflaging purposes. Good excuse for a cock-up.

Johnny Glen Miller recorded a version (WCOD) in November 1941 the month before the USA joined WW2. (It was a complete error)

Surprising how many confuse "We'll Meet Again" with "The White Cliffs of Dover". nicolajaynehend thought the "we'll meet again" phrase was from the white cliffs song

Johnny yes, 'we'll meet again' is indeed a different song to 'white cliffs' ( my late grandma used to sing them both) i watched it on channel+ later-she did it very well and at end i thought "aw listen to the Queen, channelling Vera Llynn" bless her.😁

Yes of course. I have such respect for her majesty. The Queen has been through some tough times and this address is well timed. Great advice and such a lovely speech. I hope she stays safe. Xx
