Online Food Shopping

Ask a Question

I have just started doing online food shopping but disappointed already.

I wont name the supermarket but I had ordered 2 pizzas but the wrongs ones arrived. I was not told about this change. I called and their answer was to swap them over in 2 hours time. Can’t believe they took them back, especially during these times. To make things worse the replacements were supposed to be frozen but had defrosted on journey here.

Have you had any good or bad experience with online food shopping?

It’s not always perfect but it’s the only way I shop now because of Covid. Sometimes items can’t be delivered due to out of stock and sometimes they’re replaced with similar but usually higher value but you’re only charged the price of the original item. I appreciate the service.

Have been doing online food shopping for months now and had no issues, occasionally some products out of stock but that's no different than shopping in-store really. I like that you have the option on Asda to choose if you want replacements or not on your items (I don't know if others do it as that's where we order from).

I have been ordering food online since April and generally it has been great. It’s much easier (and safer) at the moment. You should be able to tick a box next to the item ordered if you do not want a replacement if it is not in stock.

If there have been any replacements made to your order, they should be listed at the top of the order summary/ receipt that is sent with the order. It is worth checking this before the driver leaves.

gerrykelly25 Yep, it's definitely worth checking.

I made a mistake of not looking last week and then found out that they'd replaced my nice Sauvingnon Blanc with crappy Blossom Hill 😡

How they are allowed to call Blossom Hill 'wine', I do not know.

Never mind, lesson learnt.

I was not told about the replacement because they made a mistake, on my receipt was the original pizza I ordered and I had no email to say of any change. I will be ringing them to sort it out.

TheChimp the OH got a couple of crappy wines as a sub too one day he forgot to check, I think one was blossom hill as well and the other was a nasty red. He wasn't impressed.

I always swore I'd never do online shopping but am now for safety not really quicker as I have to clean it all. I get mine from Asda and I can specify no substitute for all or partial shop. I have not had major issues although bacon fatty and last nights beef slices too fatty

Supermarkets are one of the few businesses that are doing well since March, they could have been a bit more generous - offering you free delivery next time or a money off voucher 🙄

I agree they should not have taken them back, hopefully they disposed of them, but they should have sent the correct ones and asked you to dispose.

i would hate to think they sent these out again.

That was one of my concerns, obviously i had stored them correctly but they did not know that or even asked. Such a waste to dispose and that was only one order from me.

The supermarket I have been using most get it wrong every week! I am changing supermarkets when my delivery pass expires. On the plus side I don't have to go to the shop myself, and don't want to either at the moment. But it beats me how I can put things in my basket one day only to be told that 'I can't have them because they have run out' the next day. Bad stock taking!

It is frustrating when the supermarkets let us put in an order for something and then say a few days later, no, you can't have that. Bad stock taking as tumblespots says! On the plus side, we don't have to go out and risk catching the virus. In general terms, I've found online grocery shopping to be pretty good. Much better than catching the virus, anyway.

My only online FOOD shopping was with Iceland, I am reluctant to use them again. Had problems getting amount to the minimum for delivery, so ordered many things I didn't really need, what arrived was only two thirds of what I ordered. Many of the things actually delivered were the things I didn't really need.

They made a 50p charge for bags I didn't get, to add insult to injury they replaced one item with an item costing 25p less, but didn't make any attempt to, refund the 25p.

Nearly forgot to mention getting that delivery slot was a nightmare - tried multiple times each time having to make a new order, must have wasted over 24 hours trying. They say things have improved, I believe them (Things couldn't have got much worse).

I always give credit where it's due though. . . They didn't try to charge me for delivery because the amount I got fell below the minimum for free delivery. They missed a trick there.☺☺☺

I have been with Tesco and have been organised with future deliveries so when the first big lockdown occurred I had weekly bookings booked 6 weeks ahead so I never had a problem getting deliveries through the worse of the lockdown. Even better I was not charged for the super saver delivery subscription for several months so was getting free deliveries. There have been quite a few items out of stock but most of the time the substitutions have been fair even generous. The only really annoying one was when they apparently couldn't offer a substitution for a loaf of sliced white bread so we had to go to the local shop. Other than that I have been very pleased - and have not had to go out shopping at all for months.

A few years ago I got home and an iceland order was outside my house and hadn't even ordered from Iceland so called them up and they collected it and they said they would compensate me for my inconvenience which I got eventually after some persistance.

Then last year I actually ordered from Iceland myself, maybe the 2nd or 3rd shop I'd ever done with them and they delivered it to a neighbour who ate part of the order despite not ordering it. Iceland re-delivered my order the next day but it was missing quite a lot and they claimed it was a fresh pick but some of the items were frost damaged and I didn't use. Iceland customer service was terrible so I put in a claim with my credit card company and they eventually refunded me.

I like a lot of Iceland stuff and will buy instore but won't bother with their online service again. Instore staff have always been great but the delivery people are clearly incompetent at my local store made worse by terrible customer service by the management.

The main issue I have with online orders is their choice of fresh vegetables and meat products seem terrible. My mother had a melon delivered from Asda that was so rotten her hand went straight through it. Also Morrisons don't seem to want to deliver offers. You place an order with some of their best offers and many of the offers disappear which makes using Morrisons disappointing.

Tesco have always been the best for me but currently they are the most expensive for delivery and so don't use them. I've had vouchers for other stores and they are cheaper for delivery so have used other supermarkets in recent times but Tesco would be my preference normally.

I am using Waitrose and so far so good. The actual delivery was so much better than my Iceland delivery as it came in plastic boxes, like other stores do and not dumped in my porch in ten carrier bags. The Iceland delivery driver actually carried the whole lot in one go. I enquired where my eggs were in all the mess. Never again.
