My Parcel Has Been Stolen By My Neighbours - What Shall I Do?
Other
I guess I need some help. I ordered an item from eBay as usual and delivery came today so I buzzed the yodel driver in and I see him walk in and then straight back out and deliver it to my next door neighbours. I went around and asked they said “they dont have it” ... but I saw it being taken by them. Now on yodel it doesn’t show me who signed for it... I don’t know what to do
Not good. Do you have a good relationship with the neighbors? I would just contact ebay and explain the situation.
GSM I’m on the phone fighting that I didn’t receive it with Yodel I’m getting no where
I appreciate it’s your neighbour but they have stolen something. Maybe speak to the police after all it’s an offence.
Happened to me as well, Hermes app was showing they delivered next door. Hermes don't have any customer service at all so I contacted Accessorize (the package was bought from their website) and I explained them the situation, so luckily they refunded me. But I was so stressed and couldn't believe how mean some people can be.
I was told this is happening a lot. Sadly if you don’t have evidence or another witness, the police won’t do anything, and if you accuse them they might say it’s your words against theirs and might even take legal action against you.I would call the police straight away, they might not do anything but at least your neighbours will know you don’t trust them, and you know what they did. Also install a camera, even a fake one will send the message that you are in to them. You can try talk to ebay for a replacement, if you give them the police reference it’s a straight forward process otherwise they will open an investigation and it might take a few weeks.
I was very lucky, they replaced mine and since I installed a fake camera they stopped.
I wish I could install fake cameras but guess what the other neighbours think it’s impersonating but everyone on this road has them!
Does it say the item has been delivered on your EBay account? If so, open a case and say you haven’t received the item. The seller should be able to trace the parcel with the courier. If you paid by PayPal you can claim a refund if you don’t receive it.
Your neighbours sound a nightmare!
Thank you I’m trying this now! Yes my neighbours are nightmare ones! sometimes I’m scared to walk in to my own home with my young child as they just stand around at my door and not their own.
Did you give Yodel permission to leave the parcel with your neighbour, if not contact them and tell them you haven't received your parcel or can't retrieve it from where they left it .
Had a similar situation a few years back delivery company ( think that was Yodel) left a parcel at a neighbours house that we had had a dispute with down the street. We contacted Yodel and explained there was no possibility of us going to knock on their door to collect the parcel and it shouldn't have been left there anyway, Yodel simply responded by saying they would ask the driver to collect the parcel from them the next day when he was in the area and deliver it back to us, obviously they couldn't really deny they had it if it's the same person collecting it . Worked for us .
Yeah I’m just chatting to them now they are saying I should of told them to send the driver back yesterday. But I didn’t even know it was maybe an option.
Mango4 the funny thing is I saw it all happen I should of recorded it on my phone.
Its no good having a neighbour like that your best bet is what gerrykelly25 said get onto ebay open a case try get a refund hope you get it sorted poor you having someone like that as a neighbour
Your neighbours sound awful, We're lucky we have nice neighbours (my partners long term friend one side and one of my best friends other side). I would put a not on your door saying "please do not leave parcels with neighbours" - or on ebay/paypal add "please do not leave parcels with neighbours" at the end of your delivery address - that way its discreet but hopefully delivery drivers will see it.
I just read this article, you do have rights, hope it helps

So I’ve been in touch with the eBay seller who has said they will open a complaint with yodel. I’ve already done that now and what do you think if I ask for compensation will I get it?
Thats not good. They are awful neighbors. You need to speak with the police and tell them what happened hopefully they will do something i dont understand why people act like that stealing other people parcel thats a shame :/ try also to contact ebay and explain what happend to you and hopefully they will do something too good luck
Just a quick update. Metropolitan London police have logged it. As it’s not serious it will be seen to at a later date. I’m really getting annoyed why they always think they can steal and get away with it. Also someone signed for it! Definitely not me! Fingers crossed!
kate1310 that’s so lucky I’m just hoping this can be sorted with yodel. I’ve been reading all the comments about them and I just feel like I’m going to lose out here, the delivery driver didn’t even give me a chance to open the door to accept my parcel. He walked straight back out and handed it to someone else. It’s upsetting for me as I’m disabled but I ran literally to the door and he walked straight back out. It’s like yodel don’t care there’s too many stories about them
There are two issues .... both not good ...the thieving neighbours and the delivery company issue! It's awful ...the neighbours issue is the one that would rile me most ...they are thieving and should not get away with it.
I had a message saying delivered and I signed for it ,I was at work ,it definitely wasn't delivered, but I don't think they believed me! I said show me a picture and a picture of my signature but they didn't have either!
Yeah I’ve asked them to show me what signature has been put the lady said I wouldn’t be able to show you that. I’m really confused if ur saying it’s signed by me then show me right? I don’t know I’m just hoping now.
This might offer an explanation of how it might be an innocent mistake: On 13th March I was expecting a delivery from Amazon ( Saturday after 6pm) I was actually standing at my front door talking to a friend, when a black van, going very slowly, passed my door by a few houses, the driver got out with an Amazon box, the size mine would be, he crossed the road and left it with the neighbour directly opposite. I got to the van as he returned and asked why he'd left my parcel with the neighbour opposite. He answered "I've got YOURS here". :-)
Could it be you only think the parcel you saw delivered to your neighbour was yours? I noticed in the past that most Yodel deliveries were made with unmarked vehicles, so is there a possibility the parcel you saw delivered was actually for your neighbour (perhaps not even from Yodel) and yours has yet to arrive?
Blues94 Who actually confirmed it? Did someone actually see your name and address on the parcel, or did the delivery driver acknowedge it was on the parcel he delivered to the wrong address?
If it actually was confirmed it's a matter for the police.
My EX postman was jailed for stealing packages, he was eventually caught when one of the packages he stole had a tracking device in it.
Thieving scum who steal from neighbours could be caught in a similar way: https://metro.co.uk/2015/01/26/postman-jailed-after-making-15000-by-stealing-packages-and-selling-them-on-ebay-5037340/
davidstockport I saw it was my neighbours who confirmed my name she said she was me. I’ve reported it noW just waiting to see if I can get these Neighbours to stop stealing what’s not thiers
Blues94 it happened to me once and I got intouch with resolver they was great got my refund
Sorry I am confused by what you say (maybe it's one of those days). If your neighbour did actually claim to be you to steal your property - and you've got proof - presumably the driver willing to confirm it, the police should be taking it more seriously. The sender of the parcel (with your help) should be demanding action too.
I agree with other comments, phone the police as its theft at the end of the day.
Also maybe invest in a cheap cctv camera or even a cheap dummy one, maybe a ring doorbell or something so you can prove in the future no deliveries were made.
It's a sad time when we can't trust even a neighbour, I suspect mine potentially are stealing my mail and stuff so I sympathise.
If you have proof/evidence they took your parcel then report to police or contact ebay for a refund and explain that if they want paying for the item they sent give your neighbours names and address as they have the parcel in question.
So the yodel driver came here today and waited this time for me, and said that he was sorry and he’s learnt his lesson now... i am however still without my item and the thief has got away with it again!
So just if anyone was wondering.. yodel have said sorry and they have told me to resolve this with eBay seller. The seller is now waiting for yodel to tell them what’s happened. I contacted the seller who has said that they will be refunding me when they receive a refund from yodel. I’m still very unhappy with what happened. I’m disabled and I just get a sorry then the driver turns up next day demanding to see inside my hallway which I said go ahead then he said he delivered somewhere down the other end of the road. I told him I saw you hand my parcel next door and then he said oh you saw me, why didn’t you take the parcel then. I told him I’m disabled but I was standing up ready as I know it takes me time to get to the door, he had no consideration and said I have a parcel today that I had to deliver but they are not in so I’m taking it back to the deport. But why did you hand my parcel to someone else then? I’m so upset I just feel like why am I that disabled that I missed him by a second. Is it my fault? sorry to bore you all!
I hope you get it sorted soon and get your money back. I know this isn’t really the point for you - the Yodel driver has not taken your disability in to consideration. The problem is that these drivers are put under so much pressure to deliver hundreds of parcels a day that they are rushing and don’t have the time to do their job properly.
gerrykelly25 I guess you are right I am very frustrated and the fact he lied I’m upset
Just an update I got my item delivered again today and I had to pay extra for postage. I didn’t mind but I’m a little annoyed I had to pay and not the seller.
I've read through the comments and think that it's terrible that you can't trust your neighbours to take a parcel or you, I would get my items sent to another location like a nearby argos store to eliminate the possibility of this happening again in future.
PS I think that the seller was being pretty reasonable replacing your item for delivery costs, as surely it wasn't their faults that you have untrustworthy neighbours.
pato the seller emailed me saying they were paid for a new one and compensation on top so I guess I’m out of pocket here
also I have been using Argos the past week and they are so rude! I have a child that’s loud and the lady there makes me feel like Im not welcome there
Report it to the police
Get crime number
And give the crime number to yodel surely they can’t argue with that
I recently ordered a parcel and after waiting longer than expected got in touch and they sent a screen shoot of someone else’s front door where it had been delivered. Our road name is very similar to the another road in the village so with detective work we found the door in the picture. My husband went back in the evening when they were in and retrieved the parcel. They were going to send it back although our address was clearly stated on it.
DX Secure delivered OH’s passport to the wrong address. No signature, they just posted through the letterbox. I was asked to describe our door and was told it didn’t match the photo the courier took. I asked him to email me the photo, but was told he couldn’t email me a photo of the door “for security”! I said, “Security?! What about the security of your company delivering a passport to the wrong address?! Have you heard of ID fraud?” It arrived by normal post 2 days after that. I think it was delivered to the same street name in a town 18 miles away and they kindly put it back in the mail system. I reported it to both DX Secure and the Passport Office, but no-one was interested as long as it was eventually delivered.
