Passport Renewal
Ask a Question
I read on the gov.uk website that passport renewals at the moment may take up to 10 weeks. Currently up to 10 weeks if applying by post, or 3 weeks if applying online.
Has anyone applied for a passport renewal recently? How long did it take? Did you apply online or via post?
Ive read it on Martin Lewis tonight because if people decide last minute they do want to book a holiday they will need to allow for the waiting time.
I do need to renew my passport, but I currently have no plans to travel abroad this year. Consequently, I'm probably going to wait until at least the start of 2022 before getting a new passport.
We need to renew and will do it online but we aren't in a hurry to go anywhere so will wait a bit longer before going ahead. If you actually had a holiday booked then 10 weeks would be a very long wait....
Is it easy to book online I need to do 3 plan to do this year even if don’t use it’s proof of identification
Renewed mine back in January , took about 8 days , I knew it wouldn't take long . Obviously didn't need it then (or even this year ) but when and if I do need it its there .
One thing you can bet your bottom dollar on is that the wait will be months rather than days when and if the overseas restrictions are eased . There will be sob stories in the press all due to many peoples inability to think ahead .
£85 for 10 years , that's about 70p a month - is there any good reason for not renewing even if , like me , you have no intention of going abroad this year .
If anyone really needs it in a hurry there's always the same day service or 7 day service, both of which carry a much higher charge and are not available for children or first time applications.
I did mine last month in the mistaken belief I may actually be able to get abroad this year.
They told me to allow up to 10 weeks, but all in all it took 8 days.
You have to send in your old passport as well before they will start the renewal process.
blacklabrador and Golfforall thanks for that. Good to know. I realise they’re trying to manage our expectations but it’s good to hear what happens in real time in real life.
You have to send your current passport in regardless of whether you apply online or by post.
Post - it goes with the application and all other necessary documents, including counter signature
Online - the application waits until all documents, as above, have been asked for and received
I just got mine and took 2 weeks was a great service on line just make sure you get the photo right
