Would You Pay £50 for a Cup of Coffee?
In the News
Caffeine lovers with deep pockets are being invited to buy the UK's most expensive coffee at £50 for a cup of filter brew at a Mayfair cafe called Queens of Mayfair
I can only imagine perhaps gifting it as an experience for a coffee lover, but otherwise, I’m happy with my teas I make at home at a fraction of the price
If there are only 15 servings then there are more than enough people in and around Mayfair that would be willing to pay that much. If you want to save £35 you could always head to the King's Cross area for a “perfect” cup of coffee at Le Café Alain Ducasse - https://www.standard.co.uk/go/london/restaurants/alain-ducasse-cafe-perfect-coffee-15-pounds-kings-cross-a4083026.html
From what I’ve read, it’s an ‘invitation only’ kind of offer, so definitely supplying for the demand of the area. So us mere mortals will have to do with standard coffee lol. Thanks for the recommendation
God no.I hate Coffee at the best of times. You'd have to be crazy to pay that much for a cup.
Hi hspexy no way would I pay that much for coffee. Money is tight has it is. That £50 is a good way to buy my shopping or other bills. These people must have money to burn. Just stick to my normal coffee. I more of a tea drinker but I do like the odd coffee now again. Have a lovely weekend.
Hi nicolajaynehend I‘m also more of a tea drinker too, and tbh I’ve been to places abroad where the price of tea can be even more expensive...thankfully you get to sample them for free without needing to buy Have a lovely weekend also
I would not pay £50 for coffee! I don't even buy coffee at a coffee shop as I think that that's expensive. Making it home is more affordable and convenient for me. The article is interesting though. Thank you for posting it!
You’re welcome I think I prefer home brew myself. Certainly beats waiting in line for a drink
I like coffee but never buy it from coffee shops that's too expensive for me
Think of all the better things you could buy for that money
I did pay almost £7.50 for a cup once, when I was abroad and getting fancy blue mountain coffee. It was smooth and I did want to try it, but I wouldn't do it again.
Lol even £7.50 is too steep for me. I don’t think I could even part with a fiver for a cup
I love coffee but I would never spend fifty pounds on it. There are so many better things you can do with the money
Last coffee I had out was at Wetherspoons, it was 99p and I had 2 free refills so 33p a cup. Very nice too. I think the most I have ever paid for a cup of coffee was a Mocha at Costa for £3.40 and it was lovely. To me £3.40 is excessive for a coffee but an occasional treat.
yes I think £3.40 is a bit too much also, although most of these places will charge about £2 for a cup of tea, and I definitely think that’s a con - £2 for a bit of hot water and a bag? Lol I think they are certainly making high markups for hot beverages.
Nope nope nope. I bet the fools that do all say its the best thing they've ever tasted but if the same thing was £1 they would say its crap !
I genuinely wouldn't pay £50 for a cup of coffee, I love the asda smart price coffee & its 19p a jar
19p is a very good deal. I guess if it does the job and tastes decent enough, it’s worth it
hspexy and you get 500g of coffee too, I've been drinking it for years, my friend gave me a cup and I was pleasantly surprised when she told me it was smart price coffee. Cheap & cheerful and tastes good too
DanielleJaneTur I will have to give it a try myself one day. Thanks for the recommendation
I'm not a coffee expert but know it comes in waves. I forget which wave they're on now but you wouldn't believe the amount of thought that goes into it. Think of it as a fine champagne or whisky. I wouldn't pay 50 quid for a single drink of anything personally but I suppose if I was earning £500k a year, I'd consider it. This sort of thing is all relative. I have had a meal before in a Michelin starred restaurant (over 200 quid bill for two of us) and hate to say it but the extra cost was evident in the food. I couldn't even tell you what some of it was but that was one hell of a dining experience. That to me means - if somebody really, really loves coffee and I mean loves coffee for what it is (not just a fancy latte full of sugar), what's 50 quid for an experience?
Nah come on that's just stupid if it came with a lifetime gift of jammy Dodgers then maybe
There are places in Asia that sell ice cream with gold flakes. At least they don’t cost £50 - probably a fiver or tenner, but never £50
Only if it was made and served by a cute little sloth so I could savour the moment it takes to reach my lips
No chance, even if I could afford it; there are far better things that I could do with £50
