Who Should Pay for Security?

In the News

Who should be paying for the security for Harry & Megan Since they have decided not be senior royals? UK taxpayer? Canadian taxpayer? Both? Or they should receive no taxpayers money?

If they are no longer acting as senior royals and undertaking royal duties then they should be responsible for their own security. Harry will always be a Prince, but it will be in title only.

If you had a net worth of US$40million - would you need to work again? That's just Harry's net worth (most of it came via inheritance from Princess Diana and from the Queen Mother). Megan could probably add another US$5million to that sum.

I think they have more than enough already and should pay for everything themselves going forward and definitely not cheapen themselves and the Royal Family by cashing-in on the Royal "Brand" and flogging their royal connection to the Americans. Get proper jobs by all means, or do unpaid charity work, but please no Disney or Coca-Cola deals, celebrity interviews or book deals. Pure greed. Yuck!

I believe they should pay for their own security guards like other wealthy people now they are not on royal duties. They can’t expect any nation to pay. Of course Prince Charles could afford to protect his son and heir.

Why do people even care about it, unless it's coming from their pockets.

They should receive no taxpayers' money and pay their own way in life. They got themselves into this mess.

Not from UK taxpayers. If Harry can't cover the cost then Prince Charles should pay for security. Nor should taxpayers contribute towards all the additional flights they and their staff will be taking - not exactly environmentally friendly.

They shouldn't get security from either the UK or Canada, because they apparently want to live a 'normal' type of life so they should pay for it themselves if they want security at all! 🐞

They're just spoiled brats. People in Texas for example are just minding their own business and then they're attacked.

You could swap "Texas" for London and it'd remain true, and you can bet those people would love to have security guards.

Just the other day I was at the post office and out of nowhere a guy tried to make one consumer (guy) fall and get into a fight, and then he punched the next one. I was the third on the line, but I backed off so he wouldn't get near me. The police was called, but they took far too long.

It is a nasty world out there.

Rockman So true. Didn't she think before she married him about the whole thing - marrying into the royal family - she seems to have courted the press long before this though through her 'acting'. She just wants attention, any way she can get it. It also seems that she/they have a lot lined up, deals with disney, clothing ranges etc so she/they don't want to be out of the limelight at all, so it must all be about money. Funny that! 🐞

Harry is rich enough to pay for it himself, Tax payers money can be better used for things in this country.

Let Harry and megan fund it themselves. They plan to work to support themselves, well it's another household expense they will have to foot. I don't see why it is up to the UK taxplayer, Prince charles or the canada to fund it. That's what they wanted to be financially independent, so they can pay for it.

Just thought I'd be the first to say, I don't think they'll have any objection to paying for any security they require (they can afford it), and also to be the first to spell MEGHAN correctly.
