Paying at Weddings

Ask a Question

Whats peoples opinions regarding paying at weddings?

Would you go if you had to pay for food? or bring your own food?

Do you think its acceptable for guests to be paying anything at a wedding?

I personally think you shouldn't make guests pay at YOUR wedding and you have the wedding what you can afford and invite who you can afford to invite without charging guests.

Strange article below which supposedly turned out to be a joke but was probably serious from the start

People should absolutely NOT ask their guests to pay for their own food at their wedding, that is their responsilbility. If money is tight, just have a smaller wedding or elope.

I firmly believe that you have the wedding you can afford. If you can't afford to have 100s of people, then you don't have 100s of people and you go for the food option you can afford. I would never have charged people to come to my wedding. I invited the people I really wanted there and I paid for them because I wanted them there! I would not go to a wedding where I was asked to pay for my food as I would already be paying for my outfit, wedding gift, travel, possibly accomodation, so I have already spent a lot of money.

Yeah you have the wedding within your budget and if you want a more expensive one with more guests then its down to saving.

Getsome exactly, we knew that we wanted to buy a house at the same time we got married, so we needed a lot of money, we already had some savings and we gave up all luxuries and cut back wherever we could to save money. We didn't want a big wedding, which helped and I saved money wherever I could on our wedding. We had 18 months to save for our wedding and our house and that's exactly what we did. My dad always said if you can't afford it then you don't buy it!

I wouldn't mind paying a bit if I knew the couple were absolutely skint just to help them out, but the example you gave is absolutely outrageous.

Getsome Definitely not 😐

I wouldn't mind chipping in for a buffet or take some food with me though.

No! You have what you can afford.

You invite guests to spend the day with you, some of those guests may feel excluded if they can’t afford what you e chosen for them!

If a couple were really struggling and wanted to a I end their special day with family I don’t see an issue with a small wedding and a bring a plate buffet but not what they’re suggesting 😱
