I think it's so unfair that people are making life hard during these times by buying stuff and making huge profits on them
For example I been looking for games to play outside whice I would normally get from pound land or bm but they on ebay for alot more. None in my local shop my neighbour is there now looking and nothing there shame on you people doing this.
I've seen it on fb too. People getting rid of stuff and asking ridiculous prices! There are plenty of people giving stuff away for free, which is great, but it is people asking silly money for stuff. Someone wanted £75 for a 2nd hand slide that was badly faded! I can buy a new one for £80 or even less! Just ridiculous
We have a local Facebook page where some just ask if anyone has a slide and requests please let me know price. Often people just reply saying you can have it free.
I totally agree profiting from a national tragedy is totally unacceptable I go to my local butchers and buy 5 trays for a tenner they put them up to 12.50 I asked why they said it's cause the suppliers that had put them up so it's not always your local traders fault sometimes it's the its the people at the top
Even then, it might not be anybody profiteering as such because that supplier may be experiencing extra costs caused by the restrictions imposed. They're having huge problems with meat processing in America with a lot getting wasted due to staff shortages so I suspect prices have gone up there just so businesses can justify staying open.
Can we have a page on here for giving away items? That would be brilliant if you could search by area/postcode. I've offered things before on our Freecycle group but was disappointed to find it ended up on eBay!
Really?! That's out of order. This is why I ask for more than "can I have that" when people request items. Those type of people will be everywhere though.
Dennab yes it was a table and chairs. It was in really good condition but old fashioned really and what was worse was they did a whole sob story about why they wanted it only to then stick it on eBay for £20. They had no bids though!
rararachel That is disgusting behaviour. I mean, they didn't kill someone but clearly have no morals. I suppose the understanding and diplomatic person inside me wants to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just extremely desperate for cash just to buy food for instance but let's face it, that probably isn't the case!
rararachel Ah yes, one of them. Some people just play up to the media with no shame whatsoever. It's like those benefit claimants who know they are playing the system and like to advertise it. The worrying thing is the media are giving that lot a platform more and more these days because they know it will bring in clicks and plenty of comments which is all valuable for a website.
Maybe we could have a name and shame page on here for all those retailers who have been selling way overpriced goods during the crisis . We can then avoid these retailers when normality returns .
I'll start the ball rolling with Groupon and Wowcher . Gullible members have posted many of their outrageous profiteering "Deals" for loo rolls , hand sanitiser , face masks etc on here . When I have seen them I have commented to that effect .
Sadly if a private seller does the same there is little one can do except hope they get stuck with their "stock" ! I bet there are plenty of those low lifes now stuck with enough loo rolls to wipe the backsides of a small town for the next 10 years - Unlucky !!
