Should People Be Commenting on Your Pet?

I've just got home from walk we took the dog out that's me and my kids We were walking and a couple came up to us saying how lovely my dog was but she said she's a bit chunky isn't she? So my oldest said she, so was she her face wasn't impressed at all and said she's a dog she doesn't understand what she was saying again my daughter replied but she did know what she was saying and she's on a diet they walked off should I tell my daughter off? For it? I did say that was rude but she said she didn't like the fact she was saying her dog is fat
Leannexxx, your daughter was definitely not rude at all, please don't tell her off 
, I always live by the saying " if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all". This couple whom was (I'm assuming) older should of kept that kind of remark to themselves..who are they to say something so un needed to or in earshot of young children. Once while out on a walk someone once told me they couldn't see my Hungarian Vizsla's ribs, l told them they couldn't see mine either.. some pets are a tad foodies or have medical conditions that carry a few extra pounds.
Pinkspirit she is overweight and I'm doing something about it tho because we love her yes we shouldn't have made her this big but I won't lie I was trying all different food for her now she's on one that the vets suggested because she had blood in her stool he said it's probably the wet food I was giving to her so for the last week she's on pro plan hopefully she will lose something 
I don't really understand why people feel the need to comment on things like that. If you were friends I'd understand somebody saying something in a friendly way if you weren't aware but definitely not a stranger. Far too many people speak their minds nowadays and have to comment. It's like walking a dog at specific times or weathers. It's none of their business! I wouldn't say anything to your daughter other than the person was rude commenting and sometimes it's best not to say anything at all.
I’m guessing the couple weren’t trying to insult anyone, just merely making conversation, even though it may have upset your daughter & was an unnecessary comment to make. If anything, it’ll just a learning curve for everyone - definitely don’t t as he comments from strangers seriously
Leannexxx lol I think a lot of us are like that, and it’s not always a bad thing, particularly if it’s a gut reaction (my gut has handled loads of sticky situations before my brain even engaged in what was going on). We’re only human, so it’s fine to have some heated discussions from time to time - just enables us to learn from it & work out if there were better ways to handle a situation (even if it’s never executed)
Pfft who does she think she is coming over and then criticising your dog

Some dogs may be unwell or like to eat. They should keep their comments to themselves 
they just have any respect whatsoever!

then you may need to get a new harness of your pup is chunky lol 
hope the one you are using does now cause chafing even though there’s fur. People are so judgemental whether it’s your pet or commenting how you yourself looks 
Leannexxx ah that’s good to hear that the harness is fine. Ah I see well I hope you can help her to lose some weight. I heard that being overweight can put a strain on their bodies and may affect their life span. How long can dogs live for? I’m not a pet owner so don’t know about these things

I like taking to other members on here Leannexxx haha must have gotten a right telling off if you have not seen them out and about lol they should have been more careful! There’s some people who just don’t care whatsoever… ah is that so. How about a skincare gift set? Or a handbag 
that she can use. Nothing of the fancy expensive brand 
Leannexxx I see how much was the Samsung tablet? Oh is her phone an old model? Mine is and it’s still working fine for now lol but there’s some apps cannot use anymore with new updates and all that I need a newer iOS update but it can’t get anymore that the current one I have..

Leannexxx oh lol isn’t that a really old model for a phone?!! It’s usually the elder people who use those ones haha I keep thinking it’s those flip phones 
designs. Or does that brand also do smartphones? But they are not that great a quality. Samsungs are very good now! I used to own a Galaxy model when that broke it just wouldn’t turn on no idea why I went with apple
or at least it provides phones with large buttons for the elderly. What model is the phone? She sounds very frugal to me now lol Leannexxx ah is that so, lol I had no idea and I’m not one of those technology chasers you know those who constantly change and get new phones every time. New one comes out! Yeah top two brands are Apple and Samsung. I guess your sighted is like me won’t get a new one unless there’s something wrong with the current one she’s using. She’s trying to be frugal?
What a cheek, commenting on your dog! Had they said that she was cute, that would be acceptable, but at least your dog doesn't look starved.
Wow thats rude. Pointing out a dog is limping or looks unwell is one thing but saying a dog is overweight is out of order.
There's always someone out there, no matter where, that they have to stick their nose in and say something. Just brush it off and tell your daughter they're just very rude people
I don't think your daughter was rude. It was the couple that was rude. No need to make such comments. I would never comment on a dog or human for that matter on appearance as never know what is going on in people's lives.
Personally, I wouldn't comment on someone's pet's weight. It could have health issues same as a human.

I think it was a little bit rude but I'm sure no harm was intended, for me personally I always just think I won't say something to someone unless it is a positive thing. The lady should have just left it at you have a lovely dog and moved on with her day. She didn't really need to comment on your dogs weight at all as I'm sure you take your dog to the vets and if they are at an unhealthy weight the vet themselves can inform you.
jms19 yeah she goes to the vets she was there two weeks before this comment was mine I told the vet myself she's overweight and they told me what food to help her so I've got it I'm weighing it all out but for some reason she looks like she's put more on lol I don't know how she goes out 4 times a day
Id be proud of your daughter for sticking up for her dog. People shouldn't go round commenting rudely about any person or animal
Imnotcheap I am proud of her for saying something I was in shock at the time because I wasn't expecting it lol
