People Expiring Posts That Are Not Expired.

Help

Tom Deepak Kelsey May I ask for your help. It is not of huge importance in the scheme of things. However, I do feel rather upset at what appears to be unfair things going on with my account. Yesterday I was happy to let it go when my topic was locked due to being political. I don't understand how it could be taken thus as it was very clearly my view on the nature of mankind and the evil we do to each other. I cited something that happened that day as an example but it was not significant to the post. But, hey ho. I let it pass as I do not want to be problematic.

But today someone has reported a competition as expired so when I reported it myself (for which I got 5 points which I didn't want or expect) I got notification that I was incorrect, even though the t & c's state clearly that closing date is 16th January. Did anyone actually check?

(The closing date for entries will be noon on 16th January 2019. The prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other special breaks or promotions such as Christmas, Gourmet Weekends etc.)

Apart from this I am no longer going to use chat because as an OAP I am becoming quite stressed by the constant harassment and bullying from another member. Almost every post is answered with rudeness and personal comments and it is soul destroying. I have never posted one single comment that is rude or personal and do not expect to receive such. I am prepared to end my membership if you think it the wise thing to do although I will miss the other lovely members I chat with regularly.

hspexy As I said earlier, I sent you 5x messages, waiting for some response on the subject, you never bothered to respond. The posts were placed in moderation and not deleted because they did not contain all the content of the competition, not because it did not contain the answer to the question.

But once again, you are free to post as you want, I can no longer follow through with this discussion. I am only a volunteer here and it is not in my interest to harass other users.

Have a nice day!

kikogpe that makes no sense whatsoever - so you sent me messages (which I never saw - and I resent that you have stated that I never 'bothered' to respond to) while the posts were in moderation (which means I am unable to see the posts anyway) but you have now just put them back on?

I can't fully understand why you have done what you have done, but you clearly did what you wanted with my posts without explaining exactly what the rules are (as it is your preference opposed to the t&cs), and obviously you won't admit what you have done is incorrect...I am a bit concerned that moderators are holding such 'power' over members, as that indeed is some kind of dictatorship

hspexy Your posts are on, and there is no dictator here, otherwise we would not even have the chance to debate this.

Have a nice day!

kikogpe yep like I said I see they have gone back on...but for how long for??? (it's a double entendre as they are due to expire soon as well)

I also had this experience, that people expire my deals and than they share it again

yes, I have noticed it to, so it does make me question whether or not the mentor is actually checking these deals - perhaps kikogpe can elaborate? it is frustrating, particularly as it is happening more often than previously

Hi AgnesFaludi Could you give an example? We received more than 100 reports a day and it is very difficult to remember one by one.

hspexy It does seem strange that you can report a post as not being expired (when someone has reported it as such) and even give the correct closing date about a week hence, but still get a notification that you are incorrect! On that particular one it would have taken seconds only to check the closing date and reinstate the post.

Lynibis indeed. It just feels like someone is just accepting that all deals ought to be expired, which is just annoying the OPs. It was never like this before - kikogpe can confirm

We receive reports every minute (or less than that), and each of them is checked. Often incorrect reports, but until confirmed by one of us, the post remains online.

hspexy There have already been cases where we have received 20 reports from the same user, all of which are incorrect. I opened each of the links, I went to the offer, put it in my basket and added the code to check. I'm just a volunteer, I'm usually working while I do this hahaha

kikogpe yes I understand that all mentors are volunteers. Can't the points allocation for reporting a post be removed? as that might solve some issues? and perhaps Kelsey can produce some algorithm to weed out those posts which are made too soon after something is expired? (I'm no IT expert, so sorry Kelsey if I'm making an assumption for something that perhaps cannot be done)

hspexy The system works exactly so, if the report was incorrect, the points are removed.

kikogpe no I mean remove the points system for reporting altogether - so you don't get any points to start with. I know exactly how it currently works - I have been using this site from the start, so I have seen the changes

hspexy I actually see no reason for reporting comps as expired anyway. It seems a mean spirited thing to do which is rewarded by points. It encourages dishonesty. If a comp is finished anyone trying to enter cannot do so and will have wasted only seconds of their time. I am surprised they are not just automatically taken down when the expiry date is reached.

- Yes, the competition automatically expires on the end date of the post. The problem is that often the original poster sometimes put a wrong date, or for example put the final time as being 23:59, and the competition ended at 12:00. In this case, people who filter competitions by the end date, end up going to the post, clicking and realizing that the competition has already expired.

- Incorrect reports have the points removed.

kikogpe Kelsey Tom Deepak Ah, that brings me to a problem I currently have. No matter how I try I cannot alter the time when I post a comp, it always shows as 23.59 even if I try to overwrite or delete it and retype correct time. So, to help compers I have always put on my posts the time it closes. Obviously I do not mind it being reported as expired if it. Are you able to briefly explain how to change the time or better yet add as a new topic so everyone can see if having same problem. (Though to be honest it is probably just me!)

Lynibis I have no idea about this, you should ask the administrators directly, it could be some problem with your internet browser, since for me the time tool works perfectly.

Lynibis I believe that just by posting the link is sufficient - the OP should not be responsible for guiding others to the questions and answers, as that is something individuals ought to make their mind up upon. Just finding a competition that has not been posted is a task in itself, as they get shared and circulated very quickly. There used to be a handful of really, really good competition posters in the past, but they have disappeared - not sure why, but I guess they realised it was not worth their while to continue

Hi Tom Kelsey

This is a heads up. I just noticed the above message and question from Lynibis is addressed to you but your names are not highlighted so you may not have seen it. Here it is again:

In the last minute someone has reported as expired a competition I posted less than one hour ago (at time of writing this). The closing date is clearly shown in the post, you don't even have to click on the comp!!! I give up.

Lynibis from the way kikogpe has responded, I don't think I will be posting anymore competitions. It obviously is of no use to this site, and the enjoyment of it is completely gone. LD is meant to be fun for me, but atm I feel how you currently feel, which is completely fed up

Hey hspexy cheer up! I'm sure kikogpe is doing his best and this problem is about miscommunications. I'm referring it to Tom and Kelsey who are generally very keen and pretty quick to resolve problems despite having thousands of things to do. Give it a bit of time and I'm sure it'll be sorted out. I'm positive your contributions are greatly valued. Don't be sad.

Johnny😊

Johnny thanks for your kind words - I was more annoyed than sad, but it was just a fleeting moment that passed. I always try to see the silver lining - as I mentioned to Lynibis, it is good to get this out there, as it will hopefully answer other people's questions about the site and how it is operated/handled. I believe all opinions are welcome, and always good to understand the inner workings as well, as I'm sure we are all curious, particularly those who have spent a lot of time on here. Cheers Johnny 😊

Lynibis on the positive note, this topic has generated a lot of responses 😜 - perhaps not the kind of responses LD want or need, but it will hopefully help answer some questions that other people in the community may have...so it is useful and not political at all 🀣

Further to that (my other reply) if there are so many posts reported and often wrongly, if the expired reporting was disallowed it would make far less work for the mentors/staff. Surely it is not too much bother for us, as users, to just shrug our shoulders if we find a post is expired as I am sure the original poster can have no benefit from putting a wrong date. I would just move on and accept I couldn't enter/use.

78 posts in this topic just because some people don't know they can unexpire their own post and some have been here for at least 1 year so surely this option would have been obvious by now.

Also, I agree with kikogpe competitions should have answers included.

The mentors do this for FREE and you folk get FREE Amazon vouchers in return so give these lovely people and the site owners a break!

Remember, this website is 100% FREE to USE. It's not like you have to pay a membership fee to participate. Which other UK website does this? I know HUKD doesn't even give anything back to normal members.

If you don't like it then just leave and make your own deals website with your own rules, see if it becomes as popular as here. No one is forcing you to post. It's your own free will.

I am perfectly happy with how the system works as it is.

5 points = Β£0.005 = 0.5 pence so if such a pitiful amount means so much to you then such a pity.

Really sad, some need to get out and get some sunshine! πŸ˜€

I got to admit though, reading through these comments has been quite entertaining. πŸ˜€ 🍿

But yes, the mentors as well as the founders have done a great job with this site and continue to do so. And best of all, it's completely free to use and you get Amazon vouchers without having to pay a penny. I think at times people forget that the founders and mentors are only human and make mistakes like everyone else does. Especially since they probably have to go through over 100 reports a day. Must get rather tiring for them at times.

RegularComper90 i so agree and that is why there should not be any reporting of expiry, let people realise themselves, it's no biggy and would save them lots of time and effort. Save the reporting for the serious stuff, stop rewarding reporting and their work would probably halve.
