What Do People Use as Their Main Camera Nowadays When Sightseeing?
Other
Saw someone using a tablet recently taking pictures when I was out walking looked a bit bulky but easy to compose shots. Just wondered what most are using for sightseeing etc, mobile phones, compact cameras, bridge cameras, DSLR's, tablets, laptops, action cameras or maybe some sort of novelty camera, camera glasses, camera watches etc.
Maybe some people are still using conventional film cameras, I still see them for sale in photographic shops so some people are still using them.
Usually just my phone, I have a DSLR camera but I rarely take it away with me as I tend to pack light and worry about keeping it safe. Always got decent photos with my phone and it's easier just to take that
That's interesting because a DSLR is a pretty high end camera normally many have full frame sensors plus need lenses to attach to them that's quite the investment in equipment. I've never owned one myself. It's the one area they say mobile phones can't match due to the far superior sensor's on some of those types of cameras that physically couldn't fit in a phone as they are the size of old 35mm film and require large lenses because of the large sensor size.
BonzoBanana I bought my DSLR while I was in college doing A Level photography for about £400 and have taken it away and to various places but generally find that I’m usually with what my phone can do for travelling plus I don’t have to worry about having an expensive piece of equipment with me. I find that I worry about whether I carry it with me everywhere I go or risk leaving it in hotel room or hostel as have stayed in a lot of hostels while travelling
My eyes.
If you really want to remember a moment, try not to take a photo
When you take a photo of something, you’re counting on the camera to remember for you. What happens is that you don’t engage in any of the elaborative or emotional kinds of processing that really would help you remember those experiences, because you’ve outsourced it to your camera.
In other words, if your camera captures the moment, then your brain doesn’t.
I don't think that's true I find old photo's help me remember the moment, I've sort of lost many of the details in my mind and the photo helps me. I don't think I'd have a photographic memory of events ten years ago if I didn't use a camera. However I'd agree that having a complicated camera and trying to set it up for the shot can spoil the moment. It really depends on why you are there. If I go for a long walk or bike ride with the intention of taking some nice photos that is what I am there for.
My camera can go underwater, so I take it whenever I’m planning to spend some time at the beach. My phone is pretty much used for every other photo instance
Analogue, i.e, film cameras are still very much in use. I have a fisheye lens analogue camera but the cost of the film and getting the photos developed means that I don't use it anymore. Photography was my absolute passion until nearly 4 years ago when I had to stop due to chronic migraines and had to stop working for a over a year, etc. DSLR camera come in entry level, mid range and high end prices. I have on mid range, which is a very old Nikon D80, and one entry level Nikon D5100, which is the one I use for photography. I take it with me on holiday, days out. I don't have a smartphone so it is my go to camera. It is always with me in my bag when travelling. The weight is the problem. These cameras are heavy and the lenses make it worse. I only take one lens now the standard kit lens 18-55mm. I had to sell most of my lenses as I needed the money.
If I'm going somewhere new or doing something out of the ordinary I'll take a DSLR. Otherwise, I'll use my mobile.
Phone, for convenience. I always make sure I get a phone with a decent camera.
DSLR sometimes on holidays though, but they can be a faff.
Anyone who uses tablets to take photos out and about needs smacking
I've seen it quite a few times, thinking about one of the most common uses seems to be estate agents I guess they have to be extra fussy on how much they show and how it looks to sell the house so a big clear screen makes sense I guess, typically ipads. However I have still seen them used at the beach and other places. I've also used them myself on occasion mainly because I've gone for a walk or cycle ride and then sit down on bench to look the at tablet or play a game and might take a few photos too.
My iphone but i do have a nikon or canon dslr (cant remember) that i use once a year when we go on holidays abroad
I’m another one who just uses their phones. My son is a hotdog rapper and has a few Canon DSLRs but I’m happy enough with my phone
My phone is very basic and just phones & texts! I use a digital camera when taking pictures and download them to my laptop.
