Please! I Need Ideas!

So, I am doing Christmas dinner, BUT what can I make for the children for starters... they won’t eat the classics like prawns, pate etc.... one of them is autistic and a really fussy eater..... can anyone think of something a little “fun” for starters for them?
This isn’t a debate about they should eat what they’re given and like it.... I just want nice ideas! Xxxxxxxx
Have you tried tater tots but with cauliflower? Finger sized food that can be cooked in the oven and can be made well ahead of time and chilled or frozen. I've found it really successful with children who don't want the norm. Tag me if it's something you would do and I will expand with recipe.
sunny101 hi! I would love to know about these.... please let me know! Thank you so much xxxx
MandeeMayson as requested.
Cauliflower tater tots
1/2 cauli - grated or buy prepped cauli rice
1/4 onion - grated
1/4 cup of breadcrumbs
20g cheddar cheese - grated
1 large egg
salt/pepper/onion granules garlic granules optional
Mix ingredients and roll into finger sized portions (aim for 12) Cook 180 degrees for approx 20mins, turning half way through, or until golden. Serve with their fave sauce/ketchup presented in a way that will make them smile. Jenga tower, peacock fan....you know your children best and I bet you could come up with a funny creation.
sunny101 .... thank you so much for all that.... these sound amazing.... never mind the children.... the adults might be getting them too... I may have to do a trial run this coming weekend for me n t’other arf! Xxxxxxx
Golfforall can’t go wrong with this can you! Everyone loves toast and soldiers! Thank you so much xxxxx
MandeeMayson A 'nibble' plate, breadsticks with dairy lea/soft cheese/peanut butter, apple/grapes/raisins. It could all be put in a festive bowl or plastic plate with their name on
Keep it really simple like melon or grapes or M&S mini sausage rolls and the portions small, so they don't get full too soon!
Johnny another mini bites suggestion..... LOVE THESE! can’t believe I didn’t think of it! Thank you so much xxxxx
Not an healthy option but what about Chicken goujons , on a plate with a small mixed leaf side salad and a separate pot of dip of their choice.
Mango4 they love chicken dippers too! Another fab idea! I think I was overthinking it all, but everyone here has made it sound fab and fun! Thank you so much xxxxx
What kind of food do they normally like? I would base it around something that is usually a favourite and maybe make it Christmas tree shaped or something similarly festive.
ClaireF1978 love this too! Thank you so much! One of my grandsons is autistic and has a very selective taste but this sounds like fun for him! Different shapes! He will love it!
MandeeMayson yep pig out them flat out.
tesco do some chicken nuggets in shapes of trees might help for the kids
TheChimp whoa! These are great! Again, it’s the little nibbles suggestion, I’m loving it.... and I could feed all of them starters for £5!!!! Bargain! Thank you xxxxxx
ShellyWilliams thank you, cut up into small pieces would go with the little bits suggestions! SO GLAD I ASKED YOU ALL!!! Xxxxx
Perhaps find out what they like from the parents my recommendation would be mini jambons kids love them
Mick82 hi! Thank you .....I am intrigued..... mini Jambons?? PLEASE tell me more xxxxxx
MandeeMayson little pastry parcel with egg ham and cheese Lidl do frozen ones always go down a treat
When I've cooked for potentially fussy kids and I'm not sure I do a cheese fondue with nibbles they can dunk in
Oh wow!!! Great idea, you can pick fondue sets up really cheap too can’t you! Thank you so much! Xxxxx
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH TO EVERYONE FOR ALL THESE AMAZING SUGGESTIONS!! ....... you have no idea how much I appreciate all these ideas! Xxxxxxxx
lornaae this sounds great... a mini cheese board for them... brilliant! I could do them on mini slate mats with their names chalked on them! Thank you so much for this fab idea! Xxxxxx
You could try soup, I went out for a three course Christmas meal last year and I had Italian soup as a starter and it was lovely
so i do a mixture. they have a choice, prawn cocktail, pate and crackers or cheese and crackers.
thats just me tho because my lot will eat either one of those.
what about toast shaped like a tree? and they can decorate it with cheese or jams?
I go along with those who say melon but would make melon balls and give them a cocktail stick to spear them with (if old enough). This will not spoil their appetite before the main course.
Lynibis this sounds like fun..... they are all boys too!!!! Hahaha! Thank you (hope we don’t end up at A&E!! ) xxxxxxxxx
