Poor Internet Service

Ask a Question

Would you move to a property if it has bad internet service? If so would you want a big reduction off the asking price?

Fiber? Mobile? Cable? DSL?

It probably will have access to stable internet, unless it's in the middle of nowhere.

Interesting subject I'd not given much thought to as I have a good internet speed (since I ditched TalkTalk☺). I was surprised to find that not having access to a good speed can reduce the price of a property by 24%.

This makes interesting reading: https://waveinternet.co.uk/how-internet-speeds-can-affect-house-prices/

It would depend what it meant by bad. If it was really slow, kept cutting out, took ages to stream or download something then I would have to be in love with the house to want to move there, my husband needs the internet for his job so a good connection is a must for us. I would expect a reduction in price but not necessarily a massive one.

Most people are fine with semi-slow internet, but high speed users would call that bad or even terrible. I know I would.

It's a subjective matter.

I don't think that I could now. I think that I have become reliant on it for work and shopping.

We used to get a maximum of 1.4 at our last house and it was similar to that when we moved here. We did ask for a reduction after we moved here and got one too! Thankfully since then fibre has been put in by open reach and we now have somewhere in the high 40's although only 25 is promised plus we have FTTH rather than the lesser FTTC. Result 👍

My husband and I both work from home now so I wouldn't consider somewhere with terrible internet. Ours sometimes drops a few minutes and it's not great if in the middle of a work call

Gosh that’s not even a question I would consider asking the seller. I assume most have good internet service, we do.

I believe that if you look at a property on Rightmove, when you scroll down the page it gives details about the broadband service available.

We live in a country village where the electricity can be sporadic, never mind the internet! It is okay, but cannot accommodate many devices. They are currently laying cables so hopefully next year we will see an improvement.
