Portion Sizes

Ask a Question

do any of you take note of serving sizes or do you just eat by what looks right? Just posted a deal for ginger loaf cake and cant believe the serving size is 9. Usually in my house that would be 5 anything else feels mean ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, my portion size is pretty big, and any less would make me less happy. Did you know the recommendation is to eat a fist size? Or only to have 6 chips per portion? I donโ€™t think so

Who on earth would only eat 6 chips? (Presumably a person who doesn't like them in the first place - is there such a person?).

Can you imagine how a chip shop would be mocked if they only served 6 chips, it would be national news. ๐Ÿž Image

tumblespots Lol strangely enough I did meet someone who hated potatoes and hated chips - he said they tasted too earthy? And it was something he hated eating as a kid? Weirdest encounter ever ๐Ÿ˜œ

hspexy Potatoes! Too earthy! Where do they think they grow? In the ground? ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ What about other vegetables that grow underground? ๐Ÿž

tumblespots strangely enough they quite like sweet potatoes...tbh after hearing that he didnโ€™t like potatoes, Iโ€™d lost interest - not a psyche I wanted to delve into ๐Ÿ˜‚

6 chips might be my pre-meal snack while I wait for everything else to be finished cooking. Then I'll fill my plate ๐Ÿ˜‹

hspexy maybe he only had bad chips and it put him off. "Earthy" chips are disgusting, but they're obviously not common. I used to sometimes get Earthy portions at school, and occasionally I'll still get tuff odd one, but it's rare. Not nice though!

I bought a frozen pasta dish once, the sort that comes in a bag and you add water to it. It said it served 4, I think they meant 4 Borrowers as the whole thing fitted on a saucer with space around the outside. Also who decides that a cake serves 8 people! To me that's a challenge

Don't think anyone takes much notice of portion sizes on products, think it's just marketing done to make it look better value and also so that the nutritional information they put on packs looks better also

I think more guy nutritional side than marketing. If they're only suggesting a (ridiculously) small portion, they aren't going to get into trouble with too much salt, sugar, fat, calories, etc.

The portion sizes are definitely shrinking/over estimated. I've just taken delivery from Iceland Foods and there is a turkey meat joint that isn't even the length of a tea spoon. Says it serves four.........๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I have no self control with my portion sizes. I always have to fill the plates. Iโ€™m always paranoid I underfeed people. I think Iโ€™m a secret feeder ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Serving sizes are a joke. Never take notice of them. I am greedy, but even so, most people in store would eat more than the stated servings.

We have big portion sizes. Sometimes if you have a pack of crisps or sweets etc then it will say 1/4 is a serving size - i cant be the only one that eats the whole pack at once ๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™ˆ
