Where to Post Cashback Offers?

Ask a Question

Ive noticed some members put cashback offers as freebies and some as deals and I’m just wondering where is the best place for cashback offers?

I personality would think they should be posted as a freebie as you’re getting your full money back therefore it’s free.

I was thinking like this too a while back ago.. I wasn't sure where to post it as some are 100% free cashback deals but first you need to buy the item in order for you to get your cashback.

I would go with freebie too .. you even just add a note in the description box in case some members are not familiar with it.

My way of seeing it (I might be wrong) Is that at the time it is posted, a payment has to be made to purchase it, so at that point it is not free. if you get your money back at a later time it doesn't change the fact that it was paid for at time of purchase, so when posted it wasn't free. So shouldn't be advertised as FREE.

I believe if a thing was advertised as free in the press, online or television (when it was actually 100% cashback) the advertising standards authority would take strong exception to the word "free".

Hey summa68 🙂

We have a guideline where you cannot share a freebie if it requires a spend (e.g. spend £30 and get a free bag). As cashback offers require an upfront spend and the cashback isn't guaranteed, I think they're probably best suited as deals rather than freebies 👍

Kelsey thank you for explaining this I will try and remember post cashback offers as deals in the future.

I would consider that Cashback can not be factored into the "headline " price of the deal but can be mentioned in the description ? Trouble is too many members just click and paste deals and never add their own description or reason for buying the "deal"

Kelsey unfortunately I still find members posting cashback offers as a freebie, I understand I can report the offer but I think an email or something should be sent out to explain to everyone that cashback offers need to be posted as a deal as I don’t think many of us 100% knew this.

Hey 🙂 Thanks for the feedback! I'll remind the team of what the rules currently are and I've updated the guidelines to include specific mention about cashback. I'll also see if I can change the notification people get when their posts are removed for this reason to help spread the message 👍

Personally if money has to change hands including p&p them it's not free would be helpful if there was a section for cashback and "freebie" where you have to pay anything

Hey 🙂 I'm not sure if you know but you can filter out the freebie page to exclude freebies that require postage 👍
