Posting so Called Deals

Other

Wondering why people post deals unless you save at least 25%. I've seen some people post stuff worth about £25 reduced to £22.50. Wondering what others thought of this.

Not certain you can only go by the reduction percentage, as some companies put a ridiculous RRP price on their products just to claim they have given you a big discount.

Just seen one for a TV from £348 to £330 that's only about 5% but if there is an item you really want and cannot find it cheaper anywhere else, even 5% is a saving.

That's £18 saving and would be useful, but some post stuff that's not really a bargain.

I wouldnt personally post that as a deal but it is 10% and depending on how much you spend 10% can be quite a saving.

I have seen people post "deals" with nothing knocked off at all....

One culprit was just posting things at the supermarket's current prices (no deduction on them) prices I found hard to believe. Things such as cans of tomato soup at 95p.

Does anyone actually ever pay that much? (Haven't they heard of Aldi😀 ) Image

CherylParry I just checked and found that "deal that wasn't a deal" is still there - someone found an actual deal (4 for £2.50) now (4 for £2.00). Still the poster of the "95p for one deal" still got his 100 points for posting it. https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/deals/heinz-cream-tomato-soup-asda

CherylParry I do too and will only post deals I know to be genuine - I don't post many deals because of that. I usually find deals when looking for something for myself (or someone else). that is how I found this site. Unfortunately this site is becoming bogged down with deals from people only interested in points and unless some care is taken could become worthless.

No one can be 100% certain they've found the best deal but in my opinion very many don't even try.

I tend to agree with Mango4 on this one. Some deals are posted with a ridiculous RRP, in effect, falsely inflating the deal when the discounted price is at the upper limit of what could be called a bargain. Perhaps it's time to adjust the RRP box - can only be used if the product has ever been sold for that price. I get more aggravated by 'catalogue posters' - the ones who pick one shop/brand and share endlessly with no variation whatsoever. The Mods are adjusting things all the time so it will be interesting if there is every a 'poor deal' or a 'zzzzzzzzzz'' button. 😆

A "RIP OFF" button would be useful too - I've seen some where supposed freebies have a P&P price that is higher than three of the "freebies" could be bought for on Amazon, with postage included.

I've seen "freebies" where a minimum spend of £15 is required just for the "chance" of getting money back.

and unless you spent exactly £15 there was absolutely NO CHANCE of getting all your money back.

davidstockport I like the sound of your button suggestion. 😂 To be fair, not everyone has Amazon Prime so it isn't always the bargain. (think my Husband wishes we didn't have Prime because it becomes too easy to buy) I recently made a comment on a thread that I wouldn't share a particular freebie that had steep postage on it, even though I subscribe each month, then someone lurking had posted that freebie within minutes. Don't get me started on the beans thing.

Perhaps to prevent "none deals" (or waste of space deals) being posted some method such as there must either be a saving of at least 25% OR of at least £10 could be adopted (I'm not stating these as the actual figures - just as an example).

This would mean that lower priced items would need a reasonable discount - who is really interested in things costing perhaps £2 being reduced to £1.90p ?

But a thing costing £200 reduced to £190 (although only 5%)- might be interesting.

I'd also suggest that if such a system was adopted the points for posting deals, that did not meet such requirements, were forfeited.

An interesting suggestion but how would a 'no discount deal' fair in that scheme? e.g. today I posted a deal that had a collection of mini products in a bundle at a good price. (I buy this brand and there is no way that I could afford to buy the full size selection or even try them all within a few months) It becomes a tricky task when tacky Amazon jewellery is shared with a 50% - 70% discount. (I make jewellery and these are worth only a few pence) Would they get star billing because they appear to be a better deal? Sorry, David but you know I have that Devil's Advocate gene.

angemski The way I see it (I could be wrong) is if a deal is "good value" and price can't be beat anywhere else then such a deal should be regarded as legitimate, it's the deals that give little or no reduction in price that I find questionable.

I agree regarding the tacky jewelery that has an inflated starting price... to appear to have a good discount. It's a pity, as in shops, that any starting price has to be a price that the item has been genuinely offered at for a set period of time. It might be helpful if traders selling that type of rubbish were blacklisted from this site so people weren't able to share those "rip off" deals.

I rarely use this site for buying anything until I have checked the price elsewhere (with reviews if possible). The gullibility of SOME people amazes me.

Here is a link for a product that is currently on a lightning deal on Amazon, it has a massive reduction of 83% off, taking the item apparently to £9.99, but you'd need your head looked at to buy it.

At least P&P is included durrrrr- that should be enough for some people (One of my very first posts here asked if some readers had never set foot in a pound shop).

Some people only post deals as a way to boost their points. You can usually tell which types of deals are posted just for point gathering.

Such as this one for example. Now is it really much of a deal? I have seen cheaper just as good dental flosses elsewhere.

That same person only posts Waitrose deals...... not worth going there for the odd item and paying extra for anything you buy on top. You may as well shop at Asda.

I think if its a better price than anywhere else then it could be considered a deal. Mind you if you go by some of the RRP’s that often accompany a deal that can be considered not a deal.... some of those are ridiculous !

Clearly a large saving is preferable, but if you're planning to purchase an item any discount would be welcome.

You know you can just report them as a bad deal and it will get looked at by the moderators and removed if necessary. No need to shame people by linking their deals. Maybe that person only saw that deal and thought it was good? Perhaps that person only shops in one place? Who knows. Just click report and bad quality post

I think it is so subjective. What's a great deal to one person, may not seem so great to someone else. If I spot something that I think looks like a saving and is a cool item I will post it.

I try to do minimum 10%, depends what deals are around that day, but try to share the genuine value ones. So many have an inflated RRP, so the deal even with the percentage off is not a deal
