It's not the customers' fault, they are too similar in name.

Is it just me or is it weird that one company after another is being sold or going bankrupt here in the UK?

It does come off as strange that so many are going bankrupt. Still, GAME is still standing strong despite that they overcharge customers and "new" products are usually Used - Like New.

U.K. doesn't have a Walmart (did at one point but it failed) though there is ASDA from the same owners and everyone knows ASDA is huge so it can cover almost every retail department.

My local one closed months ago. I thought they all did and that they didn't exist anymore.

Think the pound store now find it hard to compete with the likes of Home bargains, B&M etc,.

Dislike my local Poundland as they charge different prices now £1, £2, £5 etc depending on the item and products are often smaller sizes/weights than in other stores. , which i find confusing.

Must admit I love these cheap shops like Poundland, Poundstretcher, B&M, Home Bargains etc. These low margin high turnover shops often have some great value stuff. I'm guessing they are fairly immune to the ebay/amazon/internet effect as they sell such low value or bulky items that don't post very economically a bit like supermarkets.

Poundworld seem to have been caught out by the drop in value of the £ they probably had the tightest margin overall of any such shop and were most damaged by the exchange rate. Poundland seems to have managed the falling currency value much better and had a higher percentage of UK sourced goods. I think the rights to the poundworld name have been bought and maybe there will be a slow return of stores under the new ownership.
