Would You Prefer to Work a Four-Day Week?

Before becoming a carer I used 2 work a 4 day shift as a nursery nurse. I loved it as i got a day off during the weekday so I had more time 2 catch up on housework or anything else that needed doing but the down side was the work days were long & tiring

Many years ago I worked 12hr shifts, 2 days, 2 nights and 4 days off and I loved it. A four day week now would be heaven .. so busy at the moment there aren't enough days in the week

DEFINITELY NOT - I'm not coming out of retirement for anyone. I do recall that when they reduced the number of days worked in the early 70s (because of power cuts) productivity went up.

My husband has been working a four day week for quite a few years. It’s a full time position but over four days. It’s great because he has Friday off so gives him a longer weekend especially this week as Monday is a bank holiday

I think 6 hours a day would be healthier. It would give time to spend with family. Moms could pick up their children after school... Etc

Given that an average working week is 37 to 40 hours (disregarding overtime) then a 4 day week (where possible to implement) need only be a 10 hour shift with 45 minute lunch break = 37. Or 10 hours and 45 minutes giving a 40 hour week with 45 minute lunch. I would happily do this if the job could accommodate it, but of course most can't.

It would benefit factories etc to have everything up and running one day less even though it may seem to be running for same amount of time.

I would happily work only four days even with some lost pay if it meant I could spend more time with my kids or work on one of those hobbies that are always on hold. It all depends on the job, hours pay etc. My sister does this kind of compressed hours a lot.

Im working in the hospital and yes long shifts but i feel more rested with three days off straight at times..

I used to work 4 10 hour days Mon, Weds, Fri (used to be thurs which I preferred) and Sat, was so much better for me and quieter when doing food shopping etc. I was already there anyway so didn’t have to pay for another days train fare and it meant I actually got home quicker as I finished at 8pm and got a lift part way instead of having to walk.

I once did a 4 day week contract years ago. It was a small business so I understood that budgets were tight. Although it was really lovely having Fridays off, I missed the camaraderie and the cash!
