Press Have Blood on Their Hands Today

In the News

Caroline Flack, 40, has taken her own life. Yes she did wrong, but the press and social media trolls have hounded her relentlessly. Nobody should feel that way. All the media outlets now are quickly deleting all the stories they have run recently on her, whilst leading tributes. About time the press were made accountable

trudy43 honestly anything more than we have now would be brilliant I suffered from anxiety and depression a while back and I was referred to a team that could maybe help and chat with I was then sent a letter to say I was son waiting list and could wait for up to 6 months it’s horrific absolutely awful

HannahJean it's a minimum of 6 months to even get an appointment with mental health teams. Even the charities out there say they are understaffed but won't take on extra volunteers. It's a never ending circle. Every 90 minutes in the UK someone takes their own life, with victims as young as 6. The police and ambulance service take thousands of calls from people struggling purely because nobody else will listen, but even with their referrals they don't get the help they need. It's getting to a stage where soon people taking their own lives will outweigh the casualties of World War 1, how is that right?

Such sad news. The media have written some terrible things about her the last couple of months and half of the people who comment on them are just as bad.

Not just you, its down to each person to avoid certain papers and companies but it wont happen as the media will be able to divert everyone's attention and bury a lot of this story and everyone will go back to normal supporting companies such as the sun.

Liverpool managed to get people to stop buying The Sun after Hillsborough, if people feel strongly about it they will stop buying it and eventually it will be gone for good

Dilligaf Yeah right that will happen and also how do you know all of Liverpool don't buy the sun?

Getsome it was heavily reported at the time and since and I know a lot of people there who say you can't even buy it in most outlets in the region.

Ever since The Sun's coverage of the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989, the newspaper has been ostracised in the city – and here's why

For decades, Liverpool fans – and those who live in the city, or are affiliated with either – have boycotted the Sun, with newsagents refusing to sell the newspaper and others declining to even say its name in full, instead referring to it as "The S*n" or "The Scum".

The Sun's notoriety related to the city Liverpool has been prominent ever since the Hillsborough Disaster occurred in 1989, resulting in 96 fatalities after a human crush. Taken from The Goal website

Dilligaf Hows that aggressive? I'm just stating that it wont happen and do you know that every shop doesn't sell it? I'm not saying that most wont sell it but we don't know that all don't sell it

Getsome your reply comes across that way. I go to Liverpool a lot, we also have engineers working there and as stated on numerous websites, newsagents won't sell it and nowhere have I said every shop

Dilligaf Well i apologise if it comes across as that way but the point I'm making that it wont disappear and because one city doesn't sell it doesn't mean other cities are not going to sell it. Another news story will dominate the press and we will forget the current story lines and the Sun will carry on a normal.

Dilligaf My family stopped buying that one because of this so people do vote with their feet. I have family there but I was born a the other end of the country and nobody here buys it either. (before anyone says the obvious about the rag - apparently it had the best sports page articles and results but even that didn't earn loyalty after the Hillsborough tragedy)

It's a shame. Mental health services in this country are shocking anyway. Caroline was a very beautiful, hardworking and talented young woman she had so much to give and offer the world. She wasn't perfect none of us are, yes she made mistakes she was a human being who didn't deserve all this crap from the media. Makes me wonder how many more people we have to lose before the media realise what their doing is vile.
