Pret Coffee Subscription (inc tea, etc), up to 5 Drinks a Day for £20 per Month

Money Saving

To encourage more customers Pret a Manger are introducing a coffee subscription next week. For £20 a month you can get up to 5 drinks everyday.

I'm not a regular Pret customer, but I'm tempted by this offer as I do buy quite a lot of drinks from coffee shops during the year and this would save me money. Plus, the first month of your subscription is free of charge.

Eligible Products. You will be able to redeem your subscription against the following products:

  • Organic coffees, teas, hot chocolates, all iced drinks including iced coffees, cold brew, frappes and smoothies (except Cocoa, Almond Butter & Banana Smoothie, Raspberry, Mango & Ginger Smoothie, and Avocado, Mango and Ginger Smoothie), including any milk alternatives, syrups and extra coffee shots which have been prepared by a barista

My mind began to spin when I read your topic as I immediately did the maths. 5 drinks a day at approx £2 per drink would be £300 per month so how can they possibly afford to do this? Ok, not everyone would have 5 a day but most would want 2 to get their moneysworth so that would be £120 if paid separately.

I would sooner have someone entering my shop 5 times per month and spending a fiver each time than up to 5 x per day for £20 per month. It sounds ridiculous and just proves how disgustingly overpriced their coffee is in the first place. That goes for all such outlets!

This is such a good offer Pret are hoping to entice customers back and it could potentially attract customers who are loyal to other companies. After 6-12 months or when they reach a set target Pret will likely increase the monthly subscription price. They will also be hoping people will purchase food. Other big coffee chains will now be looking at this and may feel compelled to offer a similar subscription ☕

Lynibis I'm sure that I read that the ingredients are around 8% compared to the cost to the customer, so a £2 drink would be 16p to somewhere like Pret.

TheChimp I believe it. When I worked behind a bar the pump soft drink syrup (cola and lemonade) cost the pub about 4p a shot but sold to customer for about £1.50 give or take.

TheChimp But it's important to remember that it doesn't just involve the cost of the ingredients. Costs start with logistics, rent, employees, electricity, etc etc etc

bzortead Yeah, I get that.

But do you think that a 16p cup of coffee should be marked up to £2 or more after taking costs into consideration?

You just have to look at these companies profits to see how much they are taking the absolute pee.

TheChimp Yes, they have to pay investors and speculators, this is definitely the biggest evil in the system.

If Costa introduced a deal like this I'd be all over it.

Sadly my nearest Pret is a good 8 miles away.

I could not drink that much coffee. I never drink more than 2 cups otherwise I get too gittery.

Also I love the smell if a cup of coffe but the smell of that much coffee is too much.

Frequent visitors could still save a lot of money if they only have 2 drinks per day. I think most customers would eventually stick to 2 or 3. The subscription also extends to other drinks as well -

This would be a waste of £20 a month for me. I'm not saying it isn't a good deal, if you drink lots of coffee, then this is brilliant. But I don't visit coffee shops, I'm not a coffee fan and I begrudge paying so much for a cup of tea. Plus my nearest pret is an hour on the bus, so would cost me extra!

Mrmac I know it's not just coffee but I would have to spend £3.60 on the bus to get there before spending the £20 subscription fee, so my £20 a month coffee or other drink, would actually cost me £128 a month. I just can't afford that, plus I don't visit coffee shops, for any type of drink on a regular basis, so this would be an additional spend to my monthly budget, so really wouldn't make sense for me to get it.

I've already said it is a brilliant offer if you are someone who goes to coffee shops often and would get the value for money from it. But I'm not one of those people.

This does seem like a very generous offer, especially as you get the first month free, so I can imagine the number of people who may take advantage of this
