Primark to Charge 15p for Paper Bags

In the News

They will start charging shoppers from next week

I normally have my own bags & I certainly won’t be parting with 15p for one of their flimsy paper bags (I’d rather buy a reusable, sturdy shopper)

What do you think of this?+20 points

I don't think they should be allowed to charge for bags personally especially paper bags

KateGriff169 I bought something today and got a free bag. There is no way I’d pay anything for something that tears so easily

By the time i've got home with a Primark paper bag it's normally fallen apart, always have some with me anyway.

TiaTia yep. They’re not made to last. Most of mine tear straight away. And there’s no chance when it rains!

Paper bags aren't strong enough, ok for light stuff that's about it , we always take our own plastic bags

My daughter told me this the other day. I suppose it’s a big cost to them and every business is trying to save money. My cat is not going to be happy, she loves sleeping in a Primark paper bag, I do remove the handles.

I don't really shop in primark. The paper bags are rubbish to be honest. I prefer spending more on better quality items that are more unique to me. I've primark stuff but I'm picky about what I do get

Jerseydrew they have ok basics and I tend to buy items on sale. No high street seems complete without one these days

hspexy we don't have one where I am. I find lots of it doesn't last. It's fast fashion. I want stuff that'll last so go for more better made. Yes it's more expensive but in the long run it works out cheaper as you aren't replacing it quickly or fixing it

I think that's fairly reasonable as I could see that being a 50p charge.

ThatsAGreatDeal lol there’s no chance I’d pay 50p for their bags. Definitely not worth it

I don't really agree with paying for a paper bag that doesn't work so I will just take my own bags in. I thought the whole idea of paying was for plastic bags as it wasn't good for the environment and would decrease the amount used.

15p isn't a bad price for a paper bag considering Morrisons charge double that..

I always carry my own bags in my crossbody bag or rucksack

janphoenix51 trust me, there’s a difference in bag quality, although I wouldn’t pay for a paper bag in general (I’d take my own sturdier bag)

Will remember to take my own bags if i get anything from their, the paper bags are ok for free but not really worth 15p as they fall apart

I remember when Aldi charged 10p for big bags now it's like £1? Ridiculous. Just carry a bag or two with you around.

This is just companies ripping off people.

Speaking of ripping off...

Yeah, right whatever excuse just to get more money out of people.

I don't shop in primark often but when I do I always buy a reusable bag because the paper ones are not sturdy enough.

We already pay for these in Wales and the bags are fine for lighter items such as clothing. However unlike a plastic carrier I would not use a paper one again as they are not as practical.

That's a shame I like their massive paper bags

It doesn't seem fair especially as I read all sizes are going to be charged the same price. I don't get that.

It’s a recyclable paper bag, this shouldn’t be allocated to happen. I do take my own plastic bags as hate them anyway, as they rip easily and useless if raining!

I would most probably go for reuseable bags.

I always try to bring my own bags, and there's no way I will be paying for a bit of flimsy paper bag from Primark. Primark is not that cheap anymore.
