I saw this making the rounds. Not sure if it's meant to be a joke.
What's your opinion on priority parking spaces and who should get them. Do you like parent and child parking?
I have 3 kids and can say parent and child parking is great, it's not there because parents can't walk it's because they are wider to get children and car seats out or to be able to get your pram to the side of the car. I admit they don't need to be closest but I've not seen any that are closer than disabled spots near me
No it’s an absolute joke, some shops have the spaces closer than disabled bays! What did parents used to do years ago when there was no such thing as parent and child parking?! Fair enough have a wider bay to get kids in and out but I think they should be put furthest away from the store entrance, I wonder how many parents would use them then!

I think from a shops point of view is better be sure then sorry, so the sooner you get the kids out of the car park the safer it is for everybody. Especially if there is a mum with few kids especially toddlers and weekly shopping in a trolley. Sure lots of people abuse this advantage and therefore this cause controversy. Obviously if the parking spaces didn't exist the parents will survive but people used to survive without many things we have now days that we can't live without!
Years ago they probably did their shopping on a high street and did not take their cars. The car parks might have also been smaller and quieter. I can tell you it's pretty difficult to get toddlers across supermarket car parks with the unpredictable way people drive and pull out in supermarket car parks, especially if you're on your own with them. There's no real reason for them to be closer other than the fact that most supermarket car parks don't have proper footpaths to all parts of the car park. Maybe it's a choice that supermarkets make, putting them close to the door means they don't have to use up space putting footpaths in.
mso No I do not have my ‘own’ children although have had to take my young nephews and nieces to shops many of times ;)
I choose to use normal bays as I found them just as easy.
I see what you are saying about being safe and would agree that children’s safety is important but in my opinion that is down to the parents to manage. Disabled parking spaces should be the closest to the shops entrance. Just my opinion!!
ClaireF1978 I know that it is difficult to to get across a car park safely with children, although I don’t have children of my own I have nieces and nephews who I regularly take out, and would be mortified if anything happened to them. However ’priority parking’ isn‘t something I’m the slightest bit bothered about because it is my choice to take the children there and I know the risks of other people’s bad driving etc. I know that there are other people that actually need those spaces closer to the store, like the disabled bays. A supermarket should still provide adequate pathing for all to stay safe!
AliceBell64468 totally agree that disabled parking spaces should be the closest, I don't have issue with that whats so ever, they obviously need it more. I just think that wider parenting spaces that are also close to the shops are very useful and the subject was a parenting spaces versus rich people parking spaces.
We've only ever used the parent and child spaces when we've had prams to lug around - once they've been able to walk by themselves we park wherever and walk/sling them on the hip. Now, with my five month old (premature, had major gastric surgery at three days old) we can rarely get a space because of the single people in their large 4x4s choosing to park in those spaces! I so wish I had the courage to pull people up on it. So I guess my point is that whether this is real or not, it's moot because most of the time people using those spaces aren't the ones with small kids anyway!
I agree, it makes me cross when you see parking in the parent and child spaces or disabled just to go to the cash machine. The shops do not police their parking spaces because those selfish ones are still customers.
I think priority parking should be available close to store for both disabled and parents with young children. I do get irritated when I see parents with older children using these spaces but I think offering a bit of support to parents shopping on their own with young children is a good idea. I remember how awkward it was taking three under threes across shop car parks years ago. I mainly waited till my husband got home from work so he could watch the children while I went shopping.
Some kids can not walk
Seems like someone thinks we should just give everything up for the rich...whoever wrote the thing up there can have an other person to go to shop for them....do not need parking
