Pub Food
Ask a Question
My daughter got her pub ( I was asking questions before on her behalf) my next question is pies. Have you a got favourite filling and what would you have it with. If you don’t like pies what would be you favourite meal to order in a pub. Unfortunately mine is very bland, a cheese and ham toastie.
Chicken pie with either ham, mushroom etc. I don't like steak pies as I always seem to get a gristly bit. If having pub food I rather like Harvester type meals like ribs, burgers, chicken, with either chips or jacket potatoes and a side salad always makes me feel as if I am not being too naughty. I expect a salad bar is too messy for a pub but I do love one as long as it has plenty of variety.
I would prefer a pasty to a pie every time, providing they are either home-made or carefully sourced from a good supplier. I recently went to a country pub and they had resurrected the 'Ploughman's Lunch' with a twist - choice of focaccia or crusty bread, tasty wedge of cheese, slice of ham, four sweet cherry toms, spoonful of mini silverskin onions and a generous dollop of Branston or onion relish. I can't explain how good this was! It seems to be the easiest to prepare but, perhaps, the cost/profit is prohibitive?
Steak and ale pie always seems popular in pubs. I personally like a bog standard meat and potato or a hot pot but that may be a northern thing so may depend on where it is
steak pie i eat but not at the pub if we do go out for a meal its uselly steak or chicken salad with a jacket spud
If I'm having pie in a pub then steak and ale but I had Salmon and pesto pasta with cheese in a pub last week and it was delicious. It was the first time I'd seen it on a menu in a pub
I'm a steak, mushroom and ale pie fan. But I've had one that had cheese in it as well and that was interesting!
