Pubs and Clubs etc. Ordered to Close from Tonight.
In the News
It's just (Friday 20th March) been announced that pubs and clubs etc. Have been ORDERED to close - as from tonight.
My own opinion is that the order is a little overdue, what do you think?
This contains more information:https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11199116/coronavirus-pubs-closing-shut/
It is very overdue. I just hope people won't cram in pubs tonight for their "last night out" like french people did
If they do I hope they'll finish the night with a few rousing choruses of "We'll Meet Again"
I'm pretty glad, because hopefully it will send the landlord of the local village pub under.
He is the most annoying, rude and abusive person going.
The only reason people go there is because it is the only pub here.
Hopefully, he will sell it at a loss.
From what I have gathered - pub owners etc. are going to be compensated reasonably well they'd already been excused business rates etc. It will be amazing if COVID-19 can do what Tim Martin (founder of Wetherspoons) couldn't do, that's virtually finish pubs as we knew them. Rest assured the Rovers Return (in Coronation Street) won't shut down for quite some time, they're too far ahead with the recording of the episodes.
I noticed that they charged £3.20 for a pint of bitter, if any back street pub in that area charged that price, they'd have shut down years ago.
davidstockport Then I'm gutted.
He's been keeping it going using his imported wife's business in Ghana for 2 years, so I was hoping that this would be the straw.
davidstockport if soaps catch up,emmerdale will be a ghost town, once pub& cafes gone, and davids can only operate as a 'proper' shop, not part café.Do you think they'll all rush to re-film to make it reflect real life?
I think it's a week overdue, but I guess the government hoped the public would be a little more sensible than they have.
I think most of the public are sensible - it's just a few idiots who don't understand how diseases are transmitted who cause the problems.
davidstockport True. They do also say that it's better to be too early than too late.
I don't know if it is true (Who knows these days) but I believe that takeaways can stay open? So if a cafe converts to takeaways they could still stay open although who knows where they get the food from?!
Does anyone else know if this is true or not?
As for pubs - beer has a short shelf life so they are really going to lose out on revenue from both food and beer...
It is correct that takeaways can stay open.
Beer actually has quite a long shelf life some I bought last year (Stella in half pint bottles - had well over a year, I've still got some left) I've just checked and some cans I bought on Thursday evening (because I couldn't get any milk and didn't want a wasted journey has an April 2021 date). I've often drunk well beyond BBE date and in my opinion it often tastes better. Draught beer doesn't last as long as canned and bottled though.
I've, quite by chance, probably got enough beer to last me until Christmas, I don't drink much, and have some unopened bottles of spirits that I know predate 1980 if I run short,
Just remembered I've got a bottle of Hierbas I bought in Ibiza where I've not been since 2000. It's supposedly an aphrodisiac so I'll take care of it - Just in case.
davidstockport We don't want you going mad davidstockport you must be careful with those aphrodisiac beers especially as you aren't supposed to be mixing with anyone - they would be a waste to drink alone?!
I was really thinking about barrelled beer in the pubs (not the cans) which I thought only had a life of about 8 weeks (high turnover product), if I could get my hands on one of those I'd be fine . If they can't sell it because they aren't allowed to open wouldn't it go to waste?
tumblespots Yes barrelled beer would go to waste unless the land-lord drinks it all, and I've known some who would
tumblespots (yes i was just going to say i think you must mean draught beer,it would go a bit flat after awhile surely? Poor landlords, they'll have to drink it all themselves!
Caz2 So anyone we see rolling around the floor near a pub is the landlord just doing his bit to ensure it doesn't go down the drains?
tumblespots Those land lords are martyrs - I've even known some who'd drink the contents from the slop trays rather than waste beer, that was only after they made it very difficult to pour it back in the barrell.
Interesting that you cannot go to café or pub but can sit in a packed Barbers or Hairdressers!
Yes i think they could have done it a month ago..also,does that include hotels closing down too?And what about care homes? Theyre all in together,so to speak.
Not sure about Hotels, my son works at a wedding and conference venue, last event today until ?????????????? not sure when he'll be back.
Spare a thought for people who won't get paid as a result. I appreciate that applies in a few industries but entertainers for instance will be massively down in earnings.
My Ex is self-employed Building Surveyor and can't travel around - he'll get no help. The son will get 80% of pay for being at home. The daughter is Corona lead at the hospital working her socks off and gets no extra. Tension is high in that house.
Dennab True and not just because I'm her mum. She should have been on holiday next week but now working overtime, she's fortunate to have this weekend off after 5 x 10 hour shifts, and she will get to Tesco in morning for NHS hour.
lilyflower It's shameful that she has to visit Tesco at a specific time to stand a chance of being able to buy her weekly essentials.
Dennab I agree, it's fortunate that she's off and staying at her boyfriends, there is no Tesco where her dad lives and the NHS person has to go with ID.
Well i know premier inn have said& they refunded my 'non-cancellable' room which was for mid april..Best western though have said theyre ''offering to help nhs by offering them needed beds for the sick, like they did in the war"- alongside 'looking after guests' so not sure how that would keep regular guests safe...
