Quick Tips for Cheap Wine
Money Saving
I love a good bottle of wine, especially when it's cheap! Here are some quick tips I like to use when deal hunting:
What are your tips for a good bottle of wine on a budget?
I don't have any tips Tom, I am one of those strange people who don't drink wine, can't stand the taste.
However, my son has turned into a bit of a wine buff/collector so thanks ever so for all the tips as it is my go to present when I run out of ideas.
Thanks for starting this thread. I like New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Villa Maria and buy when the supermarket s have 25% off, usually a dozen. Last time Sainsbury’s had this wine on offer then an extra 25% off so was an absolute bargain, almost half price.
Fantastic deal stack. I didn't think of looking at what's on offer and then stacking with the extra 25%. That would make it really good
Andorra, Portugal and Spain are all countries I'd say are far cheaper to buy, eat and drink at. Especially in Andorra where they have no tax but you are limited to only carry a few items by yourself, if you want to visit another country. So, comparing these three countries to France makes France still quite pricey in comparison (food in France is typically pricier but it has always been).
They also have really cheap tobacco there, for those who like smoking.
Oh yes, in the Winter it's absolutely beautiful.
I have long kept most of the supermarket sales months in my calendar but quite tempted to print your pretty one off in large and stick it to the fridge, every door and the ceiling above the bed. Can't be too prepared!
Haha I have a photo album on my phone for things like this. These were when they had sales this year and last, hopefully they keep to the same pattern!
I am not a drinker, and to me, it all tastes awful. Same goes for those wine imitation drinks, although Schloer isn't too bad - and it's a fraction of the price of a bottle of wine, so that is a saving there
Thanks for the info, good to know so I can get some bargains next month and also look out for deals in the new year! I've popped them in my calendar to check
this is the best supermarket when travelling over to France via Calais or Dunkirk. (other locations available)
You can get a case of 6 bottles for a tenner making them just £1.67 a bottle!
I highly recommend a visit here...I went to the one in Dunkirk and you drive past it as you come out of the port.
I am not a super wine drinker, but usually expensive wines have are much more complex in taste and flavours. I could say that it is much more for those who enjoy the drink in another way. For those who just like the taste and drink a good wine, really the cheapest ones are much nicer.
I really love the M&S offers when they come up because they are always reliable. I'm not a wine snob but I do think there are more expensive reds that are so smooth and quaffable that you just know they are quality. Tip? always look on the bright side of life - there's always the Sangria option for that dodgy sour red you bought.
i brew my own wine, since my college days due to having little or no money... used to drink it asap, now i wait longer and its really great, for example i made a batch of 30 bottles 3 years ago from frozen fruit which was on special in Lidl at the time, the recipe is called dragons blood if anyone is interested.. opened a bottle last week and wow it was fantastic, much better than store bought and all natural. under a tenner for the 30 bottles! hic!
