Random Facts about Yourself Which Others May Find Strange
Other
A kind of a spin-off from the "Things You've Never Done That Others May Find a Little Weird" topic created by blacklabrador.
I thought it would also be fun to reveal any random facts about ourselves which may seem unpopular.
So here's mine:
- I much prefer long dark evenings to long light ones (especially when it's foggy outside).
- I prefer autumn to summer (relating to fact number 1).
- I no longer watch any TV soaps such as Eastenders, Coronation Street etc.
- I don't like bacon (I'm not vegetarian or vegan btw).
- I don't like either tea or coffee.
- I take a cuddly toy to bed (had it since I was born and I am still a child on the inside).
- I like my steak to be well done (Medium rare seems to be the most popular choice).
- I think McDonalds is overrated (prefer Burger King).
In response to point 1.. why do you prefer the long dark evenings??
My random things would be
I take a cuddly toy to bed to, Mr Piglet (from Winnie the Pooh) had him for years kind of a habit now
I sleep at 9 and wake up at 6 everyday (Most people in there 20s would laugh at this & weekends natural body clock wakes me up!)
I’ve never drank alcohol (not religious reasons, not even a sip) despite 90% of my family and friends drinking it - I just don’t need it
Long dark evenings I find to be more peaceful and I just love having a stroll on a cool and misty dark autumnal evening. I am generally more active at night.
Knew this interest would be unpopular.
RegularComper90 Fair enough! I like December just for the Xmas vibes and staying in doors cosy whilst its warm but thats about it
- Stopped watching Eastenders years ago, Corrie just before lockdown, and now Emmerdale. Won't go back.
- I hate live music in pubs.
- I have never had a one night stand.
Soaps are pretty rubbish now.
I have never had a one night stand either. Much rather have a proper meaningful relationship.
I also much prefer Autumn to summer, nothing quite beats walking the dogs in the woods as the leaves are starting to turn and fall.
Very interesting facts there!
I also take a cuddly toy to bed.
For me mine are:
- I have been within punching distance of a wild giraffe
- I have ski raced in south africa (relating to number 1)
- I have travelled through more than 8 countries in 24 hours.
- I cosplay (make the costumes of characters from tv, film, game and comic and dress up as them)
- I also don't drink hot drinks AT ALL
- I don't particularly like burgers, or chicken wings. I'll eat them, I'll enjoy them, but I would never actively choose them.
Hope these are weird enough for the question!
That was interesting but the topic was about things that would seem unpopular to others, weird was the previous topic. I found your list very interesting and you have done far more interesting things than I have so well done.
blacklabrador It's how I measure everything! I live about 40000 punching distances from work!
Quite an adventurous life you have. Travelling around the world is something I've always wanted to do.
RegularComper90 it’s something I certainly recommend. Best thing I’ve ever done!
OK, a random fact about me, I once beat one of the Nolan Sisters in a karaoke contest
This was in the late 80's or early 90's - The theatre where I used to work had their Christmas party in early January (as anyone who works in catering will know it's just too busy in the run up to Christmas)
Anyway, a Nolan Sister (I cannot remember which one) was in Pantomime that year, and as was tradition we tended to invite all of the Panto cast and crew to come to the party.
Karaoke started, and being the shrinking violet that I am I was up on the stage like a shot, belting out the Frank Sinatra song "My Way"
A few songs in and Ms Nolan decided to sing one of her songs.
Alas, when a top 3 was decided, I came in 2nd with Ms Nolan pushed into 3rd place (As I remember a waitress won, with a rather stirring version of a Bucks Fizz song)
Lol that's a good claim to fame, and good inspiration for another topic. That made me speculate on your icon as it is either an old one or not you at all as you must surely be around 50 lol?
Lynibis I was 50 in April, safe to say it wasn't the 50th I'd hoped for, what with Lockdown being in full vigor.
The Icon picture was taken about four years ago, so when I was around 45/46.
Must be all the clean living/healthy lifestyle I practice
blacklabrador ha ha, or it could be the curry you mention, Asian people do seem to have better skin and look younger than their European counterparts.
Lynibis That settles it then, Curry for breakfast, lunch and tea from now on.
I have many unpopular opinions / facts which apparently make me weird
- I’ve never seen Home Alone
- I hate curry / all Indian food
- Love Island is mind numbing
- Olives are delicious
- Irn Bru tastes like furniture polish (I live in Scotland so that’s an unpopular opinion here)
1, 2, 4 + 7, what's going on there? How can't you like bacon and have a steak well done?
Totally agree with 3 + 8, but the only thing that annoys me about Burger King is that they employ the bare minimum of staff which makes wait times a lot longer and it can be quite expensive.
My strange fact is that I played for both the Welsh and Italian youth rugby teams at the old Cardiff Arms Park. Same day and same game.
