Rant for the Day

Other

If you have seen my other post then you will know I'm having a clear out and selling loads of stuff.

I has been going really well. However the one thing that I find annoying is when people say they will pick something up and they don't show and never bother to message you to tell you! I understand that plans change and you can't make it or have changed your mind, just tell me. Even message me later on and say sorry I couldn't make it. I honestly don't mind if you can no longer make it or have decided you don't want it or there has been an emergency, just tell me at the first possible moment! I even had one woman say it was my fault she hadn't shown up as I hadn't given her a time, so she had gone to the theatre and out for dinner and was going to come on her way home. It was after 7pm on a Sunday!

Argh, sorry just had to rant somewhere! Hope I don't sound totally unreasonable!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one! I wouldn't have minded but my son ended up missing his playgroup because they didn't show up on time! I am annoyed that he missed out! One of the items I am giving away for free and this is the 2nd time someone hasn't shown up! Next time I'm just going to put the free items to the charity shop!xx

I can sympathise. We often turn up to collect kids for their contact only to be told by carer it has been cancelled, usually because the social worker hasn't bothered to let anyone know. Such a waste of time and taxpayers money!

That must be so frustrating! I just don't understand how people can't send a simple message to let you know! Especially in your case where children are involved.

MrsCraig sometimes we arrive at the contact centre with the children and the parents don't turn up. That is even worse as we have to take the children back, the little ones crying and older ones trying not to. If the parents just bothered to let the centre know beforehand the carer could break it to them gently and say something like mummy/daddy is poorly today. Some parents don't deserve the title.

Lynibis that is just awful! Those poor children. I can't understand how a parent could do that. I agree that some don't deserve the title.

I was getting that problem too so annoying. So when I post a item to sell I state no time wasters and times available for collection if not collected will go to next person who offered plus I won't give address until someone on there way

I think I will need to do that! Although when someone messages about it I do state what times are suitable and tell them to message when on their way and I will give them the address. Luckily it has only happened a few times, but I had 3 no shows today! One did message and say they would be a little later but then just never showed up and no further message!

Ann1984 I use fb marketplace as I have found it the most successful, but you can still give feedback and can report a buyer for not showing up.

Two weekends in a row a painter said he'd come to redo my ceiling (upstairs washing machine leaked) and he's not turned up, not warned he wasnt coming and obviously didn't apologise either. So we just waited at home all day for nothing. So rude. The neighbour, who's paying him to do the painting, insists on having him though.

Argh it is so annoying isn't it! If he had told you he wasn't coming then you could have done something else with your day!

It's tough when someone else is paying and insists that it has to be a certain person.

Hi, I have to agree that freecycle gets a bad name from one or two people who seem to think that just because you are giving things away it entitles them to not turn up at all or ask about an item in great detail and then never get back in touch.

To be honest I've had more positive experiences with freecyle and freegle but I have to admit that it really annoys me too when people dont turn up and never message to say why. I am a bit of a bitch when that happens and block that person from messaging again!!! lol

I have had more positive experiences than negative ones too. See I wouldn't mind if they explained that they weren't coming, but to just not show up is so rude! Yeah I've reported then for not showing up and bad communication. Some selling pages ban you for that sort of thing.

MrsCraig No rudeness is not on.

Sadly, because you're a faceless entity on the internet giving things away for free, some people forget their manners and a little bit of respect of others! We'll keep doing our bit regardless though. And by all means rant anytime!!!!

Rach2503 no it is not. I had a woman who bought some of my sons baby clothes and as she was disabled I delivered them to her. I was there exactly when I said I would be!

We all love a freebie but that doesn't mean you can take the mick!

Some people are awful.

I was selling something last year, had a meeting arranged, they were on their way, and then they didn't turn up. Then they blocked me on Facebook (where I listed the item)... Who does that? Why?!

It is so frustrating! They probably blocked you so you couldn't contact them and ask why they hadn't shown up! Some people really are awful!

MrsCraig yeah, I just don't understand it though. Just say you're no longer interested, sorry, that's it. Instead, they este your time and confuse you!

Well after my rant I've gotten rid of 6 items today, a mixture of free ones and ones I'm selling and one of them was the item I had had 2 no shows for, so I am delighted! Obviously ranting and getting it out my system helped!

I know exactly how you feel. It's one of my worst things ever when people arrange to come and never bother to let you know that they change their mind :/ Never mind don't let that discourage you. Hopefully you get better luck next time 😃

I'm not letting it discourage me at all. I managed to get rid of 6 items yesterday, I just think it is rude to arrange to pick it up and not show!

I hate to say it but "I tried to warn you" these people are (not allowed to say it) I even had problems with people I was giving things to. One had me measuring an item, photographing it then expecting me to deliver it for FREE as well. It was a fully working 6 tube sunbed - I'd nearly broke my back with when getting down the stairs, for easy pick up. I wasn't taking it back so it was scrapped.

Oh I was fully aware that it would happen, I'm not naive, I was just expressing how annoying and rude it is! I'm not waiting in for people, I'm telling them when is suitable and they can work around it but it's still rude for them not to let you know they've changed their mind or can't make it.

It is so annoying when people do that especially when your waiting in for them. If im keeping something for someone for another day i tell them to message me on that morning to give me a time they are coming if they dont message i will sell to someone else.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Tell me the time you are picking it up, then message me when you are on your way and I will give you my address. If you don't message or show up I offer it to the next person. I don't mind keeping something for someone as long as they actually show up.
