A dog walker was stunned after spotting a wasp that has only been seen three times in the last 100 years.
Cathryn Dhonau stumbled across the UK's rarest wasp near her home in Worcester while with her dog Chance.
The 46-year-old took a 'one-in-a-million' snap of the bug, which has a distinct red colour.
Experts later identified the species of Ichneumon wasp - a group of around 32 subfamilies that contain around 2,500 species of parasitoid wasps - as the Agrothereutes abbreviatus. 
I found a Similar one when I was up in Scotland on holiday 
I think it belongs to the lchneumon family
Was it very large? Scotland have alot of wood wasps. We've saw some whoppers when we were staying near a forest on the West Coast.
Glitterandgold yes it was quite big that’s why I picked it up in a glass as I was not sure if it would sting or bite me
tara73ziva Looks similar to a wood wasp. Quite common in parts of Scotland, especially near wooded areas. There huge! They are harmless but look very intimidating.
Glitterandgold I'm learning.You have your own insects as well as country lol. Jealous that you still have red squirrels..we only have grey ones in London. My grandparents were Scottish,Irish and Welsh so I can be a naughty Celt.

MelissaLee1963 I'm not Scottish, I'm from the North East, just visit Scotland a couple times a year. I do love it there. Never had the luxury of catching sight of a red squirrel tho, except once fleetingly many years ago in Keilder forest.
When a bee stings it dies.When a wasp stings it lives on. It leaves a smell to inform it's mates where to follow up.I unearthed a wasp nest on an allotment once and got stung on my inner thigh.Ripped trews off in my shed and doused with urine..all I had .Sounds gruesome but it worked and worked well. A parsley leaf works well but I didn't have one to hand lol.
There is no evidence to show that urine will have any beneficial effect on stings, although it probably won't do much harm either, The same goes for jellyfish stings, although if you can identify the jellyfish that stung you peeing on it might make you feel a bit better.
In a desperate moment in my shed with a nasty wasp sting on my inner thigh (sensitive spot) I piddled and rubbed it in..it helped David..it did. Another time I chopped the top of my finger with secateurs .I used urine again and wrapped it in stinging nettles. My friend said you need A and E and stitches. I covered it up for three days .It didn't look too savoury when I opened up but it healed amazingly well.
I wouldn't pee on this fella though!
Luckily not seen that one but had to call ’A man’ out to get rid of wasp nest under the gutter. Thankfully all gone after one treatment.
Wasps serve us as do bees but I kinda prefer bumblies .Got chased by a hornet once when on a family holiday in Liechtenstein that was a bit nasty as well.
It's possible most of us have seen rare insects, birds, flowers, etc while out and about. But, were oblivious to their significance. Unless you really know your flora and fauna these things are easy to miss.
