Are We All Ready for a New Lockdown?

In the News

The new variant has entered England....

BBC News - Covid: Two cases of new variant Omicron detected in UK

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-59445388

Should we go into lockdown now?

Unfortunately I think we're heading for a NHS meltdown in the New Year.

Will you adhere to the rules if they come in to force or will you be as selfish as the anti-vaxxers?

Think it's gonna happen I'm just not sure of it will be before Christmas and I can't comment on the Anit vaxxers because that's what I get called by people on here

Ann1984 I'm not against the jab I just believe people have a choice and they shouldn't be judged for that choice I'm always careful when we go out do daily test before any of us go anywhere and I'm still called a Anit vaxxer

i hate how people who decide against having it right now are lumped with anti vaxxers, there's a big difference between the groups of people. just because you're not jabbed doesn't mean not being responsible or un caring

Let me get this, two "cases" and by that logic the whole country should be locked down? Well, see who's the selfish one.

Selfish this, selfish that. That word has lost its meaning like people calling others "racist" for disagreeing with them. 😑

I somehow don't think it will stop at 2 cases ? We'll see in 2 to 3 weeks when more is known . Hopefully the effects of the new variant will not be deadlier than the current Delta variant (although it appears initially that transmissibility is much worse ) .

Hopefully the vaccines that 90%+ of us have already had will still provide a good measure of protection until a modified vaccine against this strain (if deemed necessary) is available . I'll be first in the queue for my next one 😃.

Despite the nonsensical views of some , the vaccines have kept the majority of us safe and allowed us to live near normal lives for many months .

I really hope we dont go in to another lockdown as having learning disabilities I found it really hard and it made my mental health worse because we had to have a change of routine

IF they ramp up the vaccinations / boosters and also enforce much stricter mask wearing then maybe we can avoid full lockdown again. At least I hope so. It wont make much difference to me as I have been living under lockdown for so long its become a way of life!

There's less and less people wearing masks everyday. I caught myself still wearing one walking down the street after being at the supermarket as it kept my face was nice and warm!

didbygraham I haven't stopped wearing a mask although many have given them up altogether. Like you, some aspects of the current situation have become a way of life.

I'm in the Supermarket every other day and always wear a mask and use the sanitizers but unfortunately there can be half a dozen or more people just walking past, some not wearing masks either and nobody seems to challenge any of them, I think the vaccine has either made some people think that it's not really as bad as it was or the simply couldn't care, I hope we don't end up in another lockdown, due to ignorance.

For now I would support any type of restrictions to potentially contain this new varient because we dont know how bad it may be, or atleast until we know how effective each of the vaccines are against this new varient and if it turns out they are not nearly as effective as they are against the other varients I would support more restrictions.

Saying all of that this is just my opinion.

I haven't stopped following the rules. I wear a mask everywhere, use hand sanitizer, social distance, do the shopping in one trip to limit how often we go out. My husband and I are both double vaccinated. If there are new rules and restrictions in place I will follow them.

I'm sort of hoping there isn't a lockdown as I don't want my parents or Granny to be on their own on Christmas day but if there is a lockdown then there is a lockdown, it won't really bother me.

Hopefully there will not be another lockdown, as this new variant is in such early stages I don;'t think anyone really knows what will happen, take precautions by all means but suggesting lockdowns at the moment is just is premature. After almost two years we need good news and hope not doom and gloom all the time.

I will abide by the rules, I am getting my booster jab in December. For the first time this year, I have things planned in December, so hope they go ahead.

I do not mind another lockdown, never do a lot in winter. I would prefer being locked down to people dying. I do feel for people living alone or those petrified to leave their homes.

Will be worried most for my youngest son, as he was added to shielding list last time, so will be missing going to college again and possibly falling behind. He wont get another chance to repeat the year.😕

I think lockdown should be implemented immediately before too many catch or pass it on. I’m sure my comment won’t go down well.

It's scaremongering, uk can't have another lockdown for many reasons, financial being one, also public won't allow it.

It's been all of 2 or 3 cases for another, oh and the scientist who discovered it has publicly said it's extremely mild, you get headaches and feel tired that's it so far.

We've lived with flu for decades which is a big killer but we don't go into hiding over that.

Makes me wonder what the government is wanting us to ignore in the long run by making us focus on this.

It's all a ploy to make us live in fear.

I agree with you.

I have had both of my covid vaccinations and will most likely have the booster when offered. I also have no problem with wearing a mask. But in terms of lockdowns, we can't keep locking down every single winter. It just isn't feasible. Covid is not going away so we need to learn to live with it at some point. Whilst taking any precautions we feel that are necessary.

I am agree with you. Most people have this symptoms in autumn/winter without any illness.

New changes in travel, they said with vaccination you will have freedom and now again you have selfisolate till you get your results what may takes few extra days. Wondering if selfisolation rules also apply for a kids? 🤔

Yeah I agree too, we need to learn to live with it as every year we will have always have new variants and cant be going through the same cycle every year.

I never thought it was a good idea to stop wearing face masks, in fact we never did stop. If the government were that worried surely they would be compulsory all the time not just on public transport and in shops. And yet, I do think that we are heading for another lockdown, let's hope that we get more warning this year!

I'm genuinely sick of hearing about new variants this, covid that. I'm vaccinated and still wear a mask when I'm out shopping and on public transport. There is a new variant of the flu out each year but they don't plaster that all over the news, do they?

The new 'restrictions' are being reviewed a week before Christmas, when Boris knows most people have finished their Christmas shopping..

There's almost certainly going to be a new lockdown.
