Recommendations for a House Plant
Ask a Question
I want to give a gift to a friend who doesn't like cut flowers, I normally would default to an orchid but wondered if anyone can suggest something a little more exciting my budget is £20 - £25
Peace lily, flamenco plant, Azalea that is just a few off the top of my head but there’s lots more to chose from
I'm not a gardener, I have the opposite to a green ginger
So had to look up these plants, I really liked the flamenco plant I have never heard of this, is this easy to look after?
beccatavender they like a well drained soil and a mist spray of room temperature water and are best kept out of direct sun as it burns the leaves
I have no recommendations at all. I gave up years ago because everything I had died. I even managed to kill a Spider plant and that's no mean feat.
A succulent arrangement maybe? They don’t need much watering or care but look good
emmabeckz I was going to make the same suggestion. They are very in vogue at the moment
A red anthurium looks exotic and thrives on neglect or over watering. Lovely glossy leaves and unusual flowers that last months upon months.
beccatavender I have a couple of these plants, the latest one was gifted to me. My original one is about 10 years old and flowers every year for months.
A snake plant can make an amazing gift! You hardly need to water them - just make sure not to put them in direct sunlight. Thats all!
I am definitely increasing my knowledge of plants every time someone mentions a plant I have to look it up
beccatavender same here ...I'm off to Google 'snake plant - thanks .... SweetCinnamon ....I'm really into plants but never came across that before..... ... haaaa ... just back from Google ... 'Mother in law's Tongue ...... yep...and I have one ..... AND I learned something else..... thanks LD!!!!!!!
beccatavender does your friend have a conservatory? Do they even like plants? Also, do they have pets, if so, which type of pet as some plants can be toxic to certain animals?
She is a really keen gardener, the orchid I bought her 5 years ago is still going strong, she doesn't have a conservatory, and she has cats. She has just redecorate her kitchen during lockdown, repainted cabinets etc so thought as I haven't seen her for over a year that it be nice to get her a gift
beccatavender there are a number of plants that should be avoided if she has cats:

At least whichever plant you choose will last longer than a box of chocolates. Chocs don't last long in my home
On mine, also there is always the temptation that I would eat them and have to replace just before seeing her@HappyTravels
A lovely monstera (Swiss Cheese Plant) would be a wonderful choice - they need minimal care
I think that's a good idea as I think she will put it in her kitchen, will try to get the pot to match her kitchen colours
beccatavender that sounds like a great idea! Hope you manage to find a pot that matches
beccatavender I like that .... especially since it's a gift .... and it'll be easy to care for too. Where did you buy it from ? ....guess it was probably local to you tho.
