Reduced Food

Ask a Question

Do you buy it? We have conflicting opinions in my family so I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts

If we see something that we actually would want and either eat or freeze.. usually only meat.. I’ve seen so many people who literally will take everything off the stand and fill their trolley with everything, not even looking at what it is 🤦🏻‍♀️

It depends on what it is reduced for, if it is short of date then I probably don’t bother as we tend to leave food in the fridge for a while with enough date on for the week. Yesterday I got some amazing bargain ls in Tesco though, 2 massive malteaser advent calendars for 75p each, a quality street advent calendar for 38p, a huge bar of Cadbury dairy milk for 75p as it was broke in two, a big box of Lindt for 2.25 because the box was slightly damaged, and toilet roll 9 pack with a ripped packet for 1.38. I was so impressed with my bargains lol 😍

Depends on what it is. If it’s been on display on a fish counter I tend to avoid, but if it’s prepacked you can freeze or can cook it to extend its shelf life then I’d pick up a bargain in the reduced section. generally it’s just food that’s on its last day of used by date that they’ve selected off the shelf and put straight in to the reduced to clear section.

We always have a look through the reduced section, but generally only buy a few bits that we are likely to use quickly, After lunch today we had a Apple & Blackberry lattice pie that we bought in Tesco yesterday for 45p, reduced from £2.70, to be fair savings are generally not that good on reduced items, think we were just there at the right time

As soon as I go in asda I go to the reduced meat part and see what I can get to freeze and use for the coming week, I always had my daughters with me when they were younger but they don't bother... I never pass a bargain 😁

The thing that confuses me is the people who look at reduced things then worn you against buying it

Love reduced stuff. The coop close to me often has some bargains around 7pm which I will always pop in if passing at that time. Most of the stuff you can freeze like bread. In the weird way my mind works I can't justify buying a cake if full price because I'm trying to lose weight but if its heavily reduced I'll happily break that rule.

Nothing wrong with a good bargain if u are going to use it but buying and then forgetting about it is a waste of money or it could of gone to some one that could use it

Yes, all the time. I tend to pop into shops when they're near closing to get the heavily reduced stuff, but the retailers are not that generous with discounts. Only now and again the items are really, really worth it - and only if you buy what you need

I think having reduced food is a good idea especially if your struggling with money and hungry you can get a bit of food on cheap and fill your belly too

Some of them are really good. Like meat with yellow sticker, can be frozen.....and sometimes Coop just get rid of some stock, because they can not sell it in full price....bought coffee like that and exp date is long on them.

I do not buy milk products and several times had issues with yellow sticker bread too...

Yes absolutely either use it same day or it goes in the freezer. Great way of saving money. Only thing i wouldn't buy is fish too risky

If it's just a best before date, don't worry about it. I'd only buy stuff that was on the use by date if I could eat it that day though. There are sometimes bargains to be had, but I don't hunt for them so rarely get them.

love grabbing good reduced food but I am finding that the discounts have gotten rubbish over the past year or so and I struggle to find anything worth buying at the reduced cost- my five a day has taken a nose dive for sure!

I only buy it if it is a good reduced price, ie if there own branded stuff is cheaper i probably wouldn't and if i probably wont use it i won't buy it

I'm quite happy to buy reduced items, only if i'm going to use them. Yesterday I managed to spot in Co Op Red Velvet cake reduced to 10p...absolute bargain. My partner demolished it last night 🙂

I'll buy the odd reduced item if it's something I like and also plan to eat on the day of purchase.

Yes, all the time. Most foods you can tell when they're past anyway and it's always good to get a bargain.
