Rejigging the "Points Scoring " to Improve the Site and Deals Posted ?

With due respect to fellow members I would suggest much dross is posted as a deal = 100points even when it is plainly not a deal .
Posting deals , of course , must be encouraged - but perhaps there is a simple way to encourage a better quality of deal posting ?
How about 40 points per deal posted then 10 points per like of that deal ? This would hopefully encourage members to post deals they consider good deals and would be rewarded by fellow members acknowledging a good deal by liking it .
Seen too many members bagging their daily 300 points by posting three dross deals off Amazon , Argos etc - not surprisingly with zero likes (apart from the automatic one ).
Maybe a tweaking of the points system might encourage members to find better deals which in turn would make LatestDeals a much better site ?
And I speak as one who posts mainly high end Golf deals with huge discounts - but admittedly unlikely to attract many likes .
With respect, I think 100 points is a good amount.
Are you not posting deals then? Can't you find any? Your Pukka Pies wasn't exactly deal of the century.
I think you must sadly have missed the other 50 odd deals I have posted in the last month ? - Eating too many pies ? .
Obviously any points given for posting a deal is good , the more the better for us - but it does little to address the quality of the deal .
Surely its not about how quickly we can get an Amazon voucher , but improving the quality of deals posted ?
I would lose out under my system as I post mainly high end Golf deals - even with 60% -70% discounts they rarely attract more than 4 or 5 likes .
I think if you did as you suggest Golfforall, it would still be imperfect because many people, I suspect, just like any old deal each day in order to get their 5 x 5 lots of points. So they could be liking rubbish deals rather than searching out the good ones.
I think your idea is good in theory but not sure if it would work in practice.
However, I agree with your analysis of deals, I think just going to a site and picking 3 mediocre money off items is pretty sad way of getting 300 points.
Lynibis Unfortunately I agree with your summary of how a proportion of members use the site . By getting extra points for having a deal "liked" and less points for just posting any old rubbish might just encourage members to maybe look for better deals. A good deal could potentially rack up 200 - 300 points and a poor one (unliked) hardly worth the effort for 30 or 40 points .
Of course the site is only what members make it and by randomly liking 5 deals to earn 25 points a day isn't going to make anyone an Amazon millionaire any time soon , so as a start members might like to consider using their "likes" more critically .

It's definitely on our road map to explore tweaking the points system. Ideas in the past that we've been keen to explore include awarding no/very few points for sharing a deal and then giving a big bonus (more than the points you can earn now) if you get more than, for example, five likes. However we're aware opinion is divided on this so isn't something we've implemented so far.
We always read all the feedback (I've seen your other topic about comments too!) and put it into our big mixing pot for when we make decisions. If a tweak to the points system does happen we would do it as openly as possible - explaining the change and giving everyone a chance to say whether it should stay/go/change further.
I hope everyone continues to discuss the pros/cons of the points system as we rely on all you guys to shape the direction of LD 
Thanks , I realise that no system can be perfect and we always have to beware of unintended consequences . Anything that can be done to increase member interaction , encourage helpful (and critical) comments will be a great thing .
I realise I don't have the definitive answers but hopefully by encouraging discussion some good ideas might emerge .
