Any Recommendations For Old-Style Replacement Lightbulbs?

Ask a Question

Bet a few of you have found this but wonder if there is a practical solution. These 'very bright' LED bulbs that are equivalent to 60w or 100w are about as bright as a flickering candle. Has anyone found a bulb that actually does replace the old style electricity guzzling 'proper' bubs!

Tbh, I think they are awful and although I try to be eco friendly I stick with ordinary bulbs even though they cost massively more than they used to. As I live alone I rarely have more than one light on at a time, it is habit to turn each off as I leave a room. When I sit in the lounge watching TV I rarely put the light on until well after dark so I think my lighting usage is minute compared to some households.

LynibisWhere are you getting supplies of the old bulbs? All the ones I've looked at seem to be very cheaply made and are reported as exploding or lasting very short periods/

davewalsh126 haven't bought any for ages but think the last lot were from Wilkinsons (Wilkos) but have not had any explosions lol

The new ones never last as long as they say either. We have taken to writing on the box the date when we put the bulb in, then taking it back to Homebase when it fails.

I agree that they dont last as long as they state! Its also annoying that may of them are not dimmer switch friendly either. We do have a couple of 'smart bulbs' but with a remote rather than the phone so they can be dimmed but unless you can pick them up cheap on Amazon they are not good value as they dont last anywhere near as long as they say.

We gave up with those light bulbs ages ago. No where near bright enough for reading.

We have LED lamps in most rooms now. Give off much more light and last at least ten times longer than bulbs, using less energy.

Just wondering where you are getting them from ? I have had no problem and have replaced all in my house . I use LED Hut for mine . I realise that if you buy cheapo Chinese Tat from Amazon or EBay with high expectations you are liable to be disappointed .

Most impressed with the ones I have bought, I no longer have the problem of the rcd cutting out all the house lights when a cheapo tungsten wall light pops (previously am almost daily occurrence !) . They are sold clearly stating the lumens and whether they are dimmable . Perhaps check what you are buying ?

Probably have 20 odd in the house ,one has failed in the last 3 years . Even replaced my flourescent light in the garage when it failed with led tubes , marvellous 😀 twice as bright ,use 10% the electricity and only cost £20 quid (much cheaper than a flourescent replacement .
