Should Britain, Europe and the USA try and save more people from Afghanistan?
There are so many Afghans who do not relate to the rules of the Taliban regime. Which will now be forced upon them. I feel so sorry that they have been abandoned by the west especially women, who are treated as third class cititizens. I understand that this post will probably be removed. But, I stand up for free speech.
So should any forum on social media.
Firstly I don't see any reason your post should be removed unless the usual saboteurs turn it into a political or religious topic.
I also have great sympathy for the innocent victims and think that everything possible should be done to help them.

It is heart breaking watching the news and all the desperate people left behind. The trouble is, other countries will no longer be allowed in to evacuate any more citizens. Perhaps they could have an arrangement with neighbouring countries to help those who make it to the borders.
I don't think people would like my answer but no I don't think we should all I've heard is the uk and us what about the other countries that can help
At my age I have come to the conclusion that those who govern us have no more idea of how to run things than anyone else. You would think it would be easy to have a representative from every country and, based on size and population and economy, they could take a percentage of refugees every time the need arose.
However refugees should not be fussy and should go wherever they are allotted to be safe from whatever they are fleeing from.
But, having said that Leannexxx many countries would see this as an American/British problem as the occupation of Afghanistan was prompted by 9/11.
Leannexxx but we are, and have always been, the allies of the Americans (They finally joined us to fight in world war 2) and that means fighting alongside them when required. Also we are just as much a focus of terrorist attacks as the USA and have suffered many. We need allies in the fight against terrorism and I personally believe there will be more now the Taliban are back in control.
Leannexxx, I think news coverage focuses on the efforts being made by your home country. Many countries assisted in trying to evacuate people - France, Germany and Italy to name a few. Ireland has taken many. Those who couldn’t be airlifted have travelled to the borders and have been taken in by Iran and Pakistan.
Leannexxx the Afghan war was initiated by Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister in 2001 along side George Bush and the British have remained there ever since. It is the Afghans who worked alongside these forces that are now in most danger and there is a moral obligation to get them to safety.

I've tried to get on the social housing and I've been turned down even tho there is 4 for us sleeping in one room but they say im adequately housed never mind what's happening with the homeless and as I've said we can only take some many how many have gone to other countries I don't know because the news only says what we have done
I agree with you. We have a housing shortage here already, where on earth are they going to put all these people? There are many other countries that could pick up the slack!
tumblespots this is what I mean by all means help but for god sakes we cant take them all we have Andy Burnham saying about homeless in Manchester and where are most of them atm in a hotel in Manchester I've heard some council's are not willing to help
We should definitely try to help those who worked for the UK army while it was there. It wasn’t just the USA and the UK airlifting people out but they tend to be the ones the news items focussed on. Ideally we should send help to neighbouring countries where the refugees are fleeing to, so that they can hopefully return when, or if, conditions improve.
Yes we should and all allies should. The treatment of women and homosexual people is disgusting. One of the reasons I dislike religions so much.
We made promises to many of the people who helped us - security guards, interpreters etc but have been too quick to let them down and break those promises. Thats what has made me more angry. Many of those people will be hunted down because they helped us. The Govt keeps talking about the UKs place in the world. Quite frankly right now most of the world would be better off without us which is probably just as well as we shrink back into our own little bubble and loose friends and influence.
Great input. Intelligent and to the point. Western governments have allowed a terrorist organisation back into society and abandoned so many who tried to stop it. What happens when they start recruiting more people in our countries to kill innocent people?
I was watching the MP for relocating all the rescued Afghanistans on the news last night, she actually sounded compassionate. Problem is rehoming 10,000 when we have such a shortage of council properties, plus they are entitled to benefits, NHS etc. I think we should help as many as possible.
I think the biggest problem isnt just about housing the people fleeing afghanistan , but ensuring that they are genuine asylum seekers and not sleeping cells of terrorists
These abhorrent situations can be used by Isis and other terror organisations to their advantage to mingle with the genuine and needy to get a foothold in other countries, such as the UK
Its not hard for terrorist organisations to get hold of false passports and papers to change the identity of people , from terrorist to family man, or woman
I dont think, for example the Uk is stringent enough in their checks , otherwise we wouldnt have had the previous terror incidents over the past years that we have had
Those coming by boat normally dont have ID, some i believe they are told to dispose of it to make it easier for asylum, so the terrorists entering this way also use this to their advantage
Nobody knows how many sleeping cells are here at the moment waiting for instruction to act, and its impossible for all suspects to be covertly policed as there are not the resources
There was an incident today in New Zealand where a terrorist went on the rampage stabbing 6 people in a supermarket , he had been in the country 10 years and was known, and he was being tailed by an undercover police officer , but within 60 seconds he had stabbed these people , 3 are in a serious condition, before the officer could get to him to shoot him dead

Today a young refugee who came in the 'back door' was interviewed on TV. It transpired that he had left his wife and children behind and showed no guilt or remorse at this. Considering the Talibans aversion to women learning and working how on earth is this woman meant to survive?
It seems the world no longer breeds young men who will fight bravely for their country when evil invades, they would sooner flee and leave the vulnerable behind.
The programme said that the amount of aid given (running into billions) would be enough to make every Afghan a millionaire, and some. Something is very wrong with the way world governments run the world....I despair.
I despair too. Feel so sorry for the world my 17yo is going to have to live in. Total corruption.
The UK is well over-populated with a much higher population density than even China and in the coming years it will get smaller as more of our land is taken by the sea. We should be having policies that reduce our population, policies that motivate people to have less children, perhaps extend the retirement age but reduce hours for people past a certain age, i.e. 4 day weeks after 55, 3 day week after 60 etc. We need to be self-sufficient in food production etc.
A huge number of resources are used by monitoring about 23,000 extreme jihadists plus monitoring many more suspected jihadists. This all has to be paid for. There is also a huge disparity of muslims in the UK with about 4.3% of the population of England being muslim compared to only about 1/3rd of that percentage in Scotland and Wales.
The UK is a wonderful multi-cultural society but you have to factor in some people come from countries with extreme religious views which has decimated their countries and therefore they are motivated to become economic migrants but they may still have extreme views even if they aren't as extreme generally as many of those in the Country they left.
Sometimes you need to strip away your idealistic viewpoint and just look at the reality of a situation. You aren't going to get Hindi, Sikh, Jewish or even Islamic terrorism for most countries but some countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria etc will have extreme viewpoints.
We need to focus on breaking any strong connections with countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan and other countries with extreme religious viewpoints. Creating as much distance as possible. Stop trying to police the world. If China and Russia want to heavily influence the region in our absence so be it. Such countries will also be in chaos until they themselves move forward into the modern world. We had such times ourselves in the dark ages. The 20 years of occupation was utterly pointless when the vast majority of the population still held such religious viewpoints and soon as we left it switched back to the way it was.
I think a realistic sustainable population in the UK is only about 30 million and that is what our policies should focus on.

As you will see from above topic I too have strong feelings about world population.
It is an impossible dream for peoples of a different race, culture, religion and creed to integrate seamlessly with those who think and live so differently. It is the main cause of racism when an indigenous population feel threatened by a seemingly never ending tide of immigration. I feel sure in my heart that the figures you quoted are far too low.
No island race can survive with too many people and I think a two child policy should be applied to all who enter someone else's country rather than risk collapse of education, welfare and medical facilities. In fact I believe a 2 child policy should apply to all people everywhere, it is the one thing that everyone can do with relative ease. I would even support incentives for those who sign up to having no kids and getting rid of family allowance, child benefit, whatever it is called these days.

Start up costs may put a few people off as it is not cheap to buy a few basic tools, seeds, pots for seeds and bigger pots for permanent, compost etc.I

I never stated the UK should take them. Look back through the posts. I will state it again as I have done for others.
I said rescue them them not rehome them. All of the neighbouring countries near Afghanistan offerred to take in refugees. Read the news before you make comments like this please.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but the new government seems more stable, serious and responsible.
Of course, the media will say otherwise and folks will agree with them.

Without posting conspiracy theories. Seems to me here that there was an agreement here, we have not been informed about.
I think the Western govenments came to an agreement with Taliban leaders. In return for no more Taliban attacks.
Otherwise, why would we all have just let them walk the walk with no resistance.

I definitely would of thought it would be more stable as previously there was the conflict between the occupation and groups like the Taliban and now the occupation has ended I would of thought that was a given. The Taliban will outright kill anyone who seriously opposes them so that again adds to stability. Yes they are serious but responsible clearly could be taken many ways. They are responsible for applying a primitive moral compass from over a thousand years ago that makes almost zero sense. A moral compass where women, non-Muslims and homosexuals are seen as vastly inferior and ok to persecute and even kill on occasion without trial.
Again that is their religious view which is held by the majority of males there who hold the power. I think we should reject that and break contact as completely as we can with that country, no travel, no aid, no commerce or anything at all really with Afghanistan. The same should happen with every decent country. Just let them get on with it and see where it takes them compared to the rest of the world.
I don't think anyone is denying that the Taliban government will end up with a huge number of people dying from lack of medical care, starvation and ethnic cleansing etc. Many companies have left, it's a completely unstable country for commerce now. Already there are huge demands for aid there both food and medical supplies. Much of the infrastructure is damaged or non-existent.
