Well after the scorching weather we have had the cooler weather is more than welcome
But unfortunately it leaves some lawns more brown than green
Rather than ripping it up to relay new, or reseed , it is possible to reinvigorate it back to green
This article takes you through 4 steps to do this
I think one of the most important tips to aerate the dry soil so water will get through the surface and not just sit on the top

I haven't mowed the lawn in a while probably since it started to turn tbh. Although it's not massively grown either so I'm hoping I can leave it until spring. I'm sure we will have plenty of rain soon and be moaning about it 
but at least the plants and grass will thrive again. Thank you for the list, I've saved it. I would have started to seed it early so I'm glad you posted this as it actually says not to for a while yet.
telmel...Thanks for this Terry, as the Irish say," It's teeming" here in Sheffield..The roads are flooded, Ive seen the videos doing the rounds on FB when I visited my sister after work today..
Our lawn has hardly grown in a few weeks so this information will come in handy. In Northern Ireland the grass was beautifully green when we visited my partner's family 10th -21st August & I was praying for rain after soooo many fires in our city & also the beautiful Peak District which is on our doorstep..
janphoenix51 Hopefully if you poke holes in the dried soil the rain will penetrate , good luck with getting it healthy 
My husband will scarify the lawn to take out all the dead bits then sprinkle some weed and feed. This has always worked well on our lawn.
Maybe leave it for a while and see what happens with the rain. It may rectify itself. Otherwise you may have to start from scratch
Our grass went brown and very dried out. We haven’t done anything to it apart from weed it over the last few weeks. We have had a few heavy downpours of rain these last few nights and it’s starting to turn green already. Maybe getting the weeds out help aerate it. 
I hadn't really given much thought into how to help the lawn recover, I just felt it would do it by itself naturally or I would sow some grass seeds next year. This article was pretty helpful and first thing tomorrow morning I will be out there trying to give my garden the best chance to get reinvigorated.
I was just thinking about this too lol ah well just have to leave it as it is as the rain 
will probably help. What annoys me is seeing the hydrangeas as they keep wilting 
and they don’t keep their blue, purple or pink vibrant colours I know that’s from the acidity of the soil.
Lucky there was no hose pipe ban where I live. Every three days or so I had the sprinkler on. My grass never went brown. It's bouncing back already now it is raining again. Other people with bans were not of lucky. Thing is about grass it's like a weed, it'll recover.
Our lawn is usually lovely but like others it went like straw but due to the rain we've had over the last 24 hours it's already starting to go green so quickly. We have a hose pipe ban on so no watering.
