Tv series/films you really shouldn't miss

Other

I have been the first to complain about the amount of Netflix, Amazon, film topics on here. Requests for suggestions etc. But to be honest a list of titles tells nothing about the film/series or why you liked it. So, how about choosing something you have loved watching during lockdown (or an all time favourite), and giving us a proper review without spoilers so we can tell if we would fancy watching it.

Try not to repeat another's favourite but 'like it' if you have 'liked it' too lol.

Folk seem to watch more than read so maybe this will go down better than the book club.

Thanks Nino but it is a review thread, are you able to give a bit more info even if it is the genre and who is in it. Whether it is family, sci fi, drama, spy etc.

As there has been a bit more action on here I am going to review one of my all time favourites.....Vikings.

Have watched this 3 times but I am very aware that my taste in viewing is not everyone's. The title speaks for itself so I am not going to go into the story as there is so much going on and it spans 3 generations. Suffice to say it starts with the initial Viking raid on Lindisfarne by the ambitious Ragnar Lothbrok and his eventual rise to fame and high status. Basically a good man but as bloodthirsty and vengeful as men of all races in that era. The story follows him and his 5 sons and his ex wife who is also a warrior. The writer of the series has kept as much as possible to real history and it makes for a viewing rollercoaster of a ride. Enjoy.

If you like this you will also like The Last Kingdom, if I had to rate these series Vikings would be 9.8 and Last Kingdom 9.5

Have resurrected this again because someone yesterday again asked for viewing recommendations. Anyway I am now finally watching Our Girl on BBC iPlayer and to my surprise quite enjoying it. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Not heard of Last Dance, what genre is it and anyone well known? I like historical stuff mainly but don't mind a good spy or thriller drama.

I finished watching Our Girl and was very impressed with Michelle Keegan, not so much with Lacey Turner. In view of the current furore I couldn't help laughing when a black guy said to a white guy that he was whiter than a rice pudding despite being in Afghan for several months!

Now watching Musketeers again, a bit more light hearted with 4 lovely guys and adventures galore......oooops is that a sexist remark objectifying men lol?

Spot the hunk in both!

Ann1984 I can remember trying to watch that several years ago but couldn't get past the first episode. I find it difficult to watch puzzling opening episodes where you have to wait forever to understand what is going on lol. I like a straightforward story that unfolds. But then it wouldn't do for us all to like the same things.

I loved Braveheart when it came out but could not ever watch again as I found the gruesome bits too hard to watch.

"Sons of Anarchy" and then the sequel - Mayans M.C.

For me, SoA is far superior in every level, but some of the characters from Mayans M.C. remind me of my people.

Vikings is up there in my top 5 all time favourites. I am gutted that the second half of the current series will be the last. However, I have heard there will be an offshoot of the series and I really hope it is true.

Ann1984 No, I didn't. If I am right is it sci fi, that is a genre I cannot watch, not even Star Wars lol. But yes, when you said you OH watched History, I guessed we had similar tastes. I loved the Plantagenets (documentary) with Dan Jones narrating. He also did an interesting one about the Treasure of the Knights Templar. Sam Willis has also done a lot of good historical ones, Swords, Muskets and Canon and a good one about Pirates.

PS Did you see my topic about Frustration With Chat. Someone copied one of my comments!!!

We’ve nearly finished the series of Rake on Netflix - it’s an Australian comedy about a slightly crazy barrister and all his antics.. very easy watching and lots of funny bits, but quite adult themed with drug use and sex scenes despite being advertised as “teen”! Theres 5 series worth 😊

I've only just started watching Marco Polo on Netflix - I have overdosed on comedy for the last couple of months and now prepared to watch something a little meatier. This is 6 years old but I thought it would be the story we all know so ignored it. Some amazing scenery and sets with a completely different side to the explorer's story. Well worth a watch.

Synopsis - In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, "Marco Polo" is based on the famed explorer's adventures in Kublai Khan's court in 13th century Mongolia.

angemski another we have both enjoyed! I watched it some time ago and have been debating recently whether to watch again as I am so fussy and can't find anything new. I have watched 1st series of Medici this week and find I do get quite a lot from a second watch so may give Borgias a go for the third time soon. Was annoyed to find Borgias on Amazon but having to pay through a site called Acorn. I do not understand why there are so many you have to pay for on there but luckily I have the boxset.

'Breaking Bad' would be my choice to recommend if you haven't seen it. If you have already seen it then the prequel 'Better Call Saul' is a must too, that has just finished season 4 and is must see for Breaking Bad fans.

I watched BB when it first came out and before all the modern tech I now have, so my viewing was a bit intermittent. It was so different from anything else I had seen. I never saw it through to end but 18 year old grandson loved it. I tried Saul but sorry to say only made it to second episode!

Lynibis Better Call Saul is abit slow to start with but by season 3 its brilliant. Cant say too much as anything id say would be a spoiler but season 4 is even better than BB itself imo
