Ridiculous Marketing Emails Worded as if We Are in a Romantic Relationship

Ask a Question

I've noticed an increase in these. Just got one from the Bodyshop with the header 'is it over between us?', and the first line of the body of the email was 'we need to talk' and further on down 'are we breaking up?'. what? Do these companies think these ridiculous emails implying some of kind personal romantic relationship are a) cute, b) endearing and c) going to encourage me to buy from them? I find it highly annoying and I unsubscribe from anyone who sends me these. Anyone else find these painful?

What do you think of this?

Yes!! I hate these spam emails and they are normally written with broken English.

I have had some Nigerian emails pretending to be interested in purchasing an item on Gumtree and they send a fake email from PayPal saying the funds are pending and you need to enter your bank details or send money to release the funds 😂😂

I phoned PayPal to see if it was a scam which they confirmed it was and said they were based in Nigeria - yet claiming to be an elderly disabled woman in the UK!

I've had several of those Nigerian emails in the last 2 weeks. Each one refers to the last and why haven't I replied yet. Gee, I wonder. Going back nearly 12 years, I received a snail mail version to my house.

Totally agree! Their advertising staff need to be sacked coming up with sick inducing stuff like that.

Occasionally, when I unsubscribe from marketing emails I get headers saying stuff like "We will miss you!" and "sad that you are leaving".

Yeah right. The only thing they miss and find sad is not being able to spam me with their newsletters anymore.

Even Latest Deals is a bit familiar with Telegram messages, "my cheeky sausages" for example.

Though I guess we are also a closer community compared to emails going out by those companies.

I'm fed up with the legitimate sites! 'We've missed you' - 'We've saved it for you' - ?? - 'We've saved your basket' - ?? -'Ooops! our bad' Indeed it is your bad because I've unsubscribed and the other stuff just gets reported. If they really wanted to keep me they would give me £10, at leeeeeeast, off my next purchase. 🤣

Sometimes those basket ones are useful emails - they sometimes give money off. If they don't though, useless!

MeestairChrees I wish!!! Just recently I've had loads of them even when there was nothing in my basket and I had only looked on the site. 😂

I think they're a bit of lighthearted fun. We had some at work from suppliers so some ridiculous use of valentine's marketing to sell us general work related supplies. We found it quite amusing.

I think some of them are quite funny although some are not very well thought out. I remember when i worked for a Mobile Network and they sent out a generated text advertisinh something but it came through on your phone as from ‘Mum’. We had thousands of complaints and i spoke to a number of people crying that their Mums had died and seeing that text come through on their phone was horrible.
