Roy 'Chubby' Brown: Row after Comedian Banned
Ask a Question
I don't like his type of comedy and would never pay to to see him, but I think this is censorship.
Sheffield City Trust has pulled his show as it doesn't reflect our values, the venue said that they need all the income they can remember, since they have been closed for so long
There is a petition against this decision.
What's your take on this ?

The 'Chubby Brown' you see on stage is not the real Roy. In everyday life he is a very polite and quiet man who does not swear and doesn't like it.
lilyflower got to love good old chubby seen him in Blackpool. These snowflakes need to go back in there she’ll.
Not my kind of humour, but I dislike censorship, cancel culture and rewriting history much more.
I've never seen him although Mr T has.
What I don't like is people telling us what we are allowed to see, what to watch, what to listen to and what to think. It's getting very like '1984'!!
We all need to get a grip and tell them where to go. Whatever happened to free speech??
tumblespots What do you mean 'getting' very like 1984? Gone past that point.
At least they gave **** to the proles in the novel and would probably allow Chubby Brown as well.
I seen him years ago in Scarborough and he was hilarious. I had all his VIDEOS back then and his shows were always a sell out. Surely it’s everyones personal taste whether you want to see him or not. At the end of the day it’s an act like Mrs Brown it’s not who he is in real life.
The more PC we get the more violence and crime there seems to be. Presumably we are all paying for these people who determine political correctness to be important and legislated against. Comedy has always been pretty offensive to some people. I mean Bernard Manning's act had a lot of Jewish and Irish jokes and he had that ancestry himself. There wasn't much Bernard wouldn't aim his jokes at. I've seen a bit of Chubby Brown in my time here and there. I'm neither a fan or against him but I really don't see why someone shouldn't be allowed to see him. We have many horror films produced which focus on sadistic violent acts which goes well beyond swearing and un-PC jokes. I would of thought there would be many things to ban first before you worry about dodgy un PC humour. Priorities seem messed up.
B, you took the words right out of my mouth, i was going to post about bernard manning , he was a true racist, if you saw the mrs mertle interview that was supposed to be tongue in cheek it actually showed his true colours
Even freddie starr had a dark side
I prefer him to jimmy carr for instance, his tongue can be lethal and he says things with a straight face , but its his character
At least chubby brown has a go at everyone ,the audience, his wife and himself also , its all part of the act
His language was and is choice , but again thats his character
There is a you tube video of one of his 80s concerts i watched last night, i have seen it before but
he does still make me chuckle
I am surprised he has lasted so long with the 'woke ' society we now live in
But as you say its about freedom of choice, if you dont like it dont watch it
Regarding horror films i have had someone actually say to me that i must have something wrong with me liking them
My answer to that is what about the producers, actors, and millions of other people that go to watch them, or even watch in their own homes
We cannot all be abnormal
That's the point of horror movies. It wouldn't be horror without it.
People in the West decided to elect horrible politicians whom are in charge of their countries/states, so reap what you sow.
Never liked him but a lot of people do and he should be allowed to perform his act just like everyone else he won’t offend you if you aren’t there so what’s the problem
Watched him a few years ago Nd yes was dated humour but with a few drinks inside we had a good laugh
My friend walked past him riding his bike… he lives close by, and he was very friendly and polite. He has an on stage persona, it’s an act, and if they allow the likes of Frankie Boyle perform, then why ban Chubby Brown?!
I agree - personally cant stand him - so I would not pay to go and see him. Its free choice. Most people who pay to see him know exactly what they are in for so why shouldn't they be able to see him. No one is being forced to go! Frankie Boyle has been mentioned in this post - there are plenty of people, some of the national papers especially who want to get him banned too, but again, if you go to his shows you should know exactly what you are going to get. If you are easily offended you shouldn't go! Sadly too many people seem to take it appoint themselves to decide what is appropriate for others to see.
People these days get offended over something and they're not even the audience of it (e.g. product).
It happens a lot on Twitter and Facebook. Two websites filled with mental cases.
This is the latest on the ban
32,000 people have signed a petition in protest against it
Even one of the other councillors protested
'' Mr Mohammed asked the council leader: “Who else are you intending to support the banning of within our city – a yes or no answer.
“Danny Baker yes or no? Jimmy Carr, yes or no? Frankie Boyle, yes or no? Ricky Gervais, yes or no?
“Will they also now be purged as comedians from this city because they are not in keeping with the likes and tastes of yourself and members of board at SCT?”
If i was on his legal team i would be taking the sheffield city trust to court for discrimination

I never heard of this guy till now. Folks in U.K. are making a big fuss over it.
Just use a different venue.
I think the fuss is about the Trust taking a Nanny State stance by insisting they know best. The posters for this gigs already say if you are easily offended don't go to see him. You have to be over 18 to be admitted.
The venue were OK with his act otherwise they wouldn't have booked him, so they are losing revenue.
It's the censorship, I object to, I wouldn't go to see him but thats my choice.
It's like I would have never have gone to see Richard Pryor as I don't find swearing for swearing sake funny. But how would you feel if he was banned by a town in the US ?
P, its not the fact they have banned him , thats bad enough , its more the fact he has played the same venue for the last 30 years and they have now decided hes not suitable any more
I am sure he could find a new venue but i would question their decision , its discriminatory
You sound as if you may not be from these shores, US possibly ?
If so i am sure you believe in democracy and freedom of speech thats in the amendments
I don't like that myself but did prefer comedy before people became too afraid of being censored
