Royal Mail Launches 72p Parcel Pick-up Service

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54614871

Royal Mail has started collecting parcels and mail from people's homes from Wednesday, trying to capitalise on a rise in online shopping which has been accelerated by the coronavirus crisis.

Is this something you would use?

I suppose it will depend on the proximity of post offices for many people, as to if they'll use the service, Even if they have a car 72p won't buy much petrol, when everything is taken into consideration (time and expense etc,) it's probably well worth it for most people.

saving the hassle of queuing alone....72p would be considered a bargain for most

This could be useful for returns I guess if its available locally. Id happily pay the 79p rather than trek up the hill to the local post office and the inevitable queues

I think it's a great idea and I could've used the service at least half a dozen times over the last 6 months. I also agree with another member that points out the cost of petrol to get the designated Post Office. Now working from home means I will definitely be using it.

Sounds reasonable but I have to go past a post office on school run

It's a good idea, but I live 5 minutes away from a post office. Consequently, I doubt I'll be taking advantage of this service anytime soon 📦

Great idea but I think I will carry on going to the post office but like the idea anyway

It seems a good idea, providing you can book online or have the app

The firm's new "Parcel Collect" service will operate six days a week and you'll be able to send up to five parcels at a time.

Your local postman or postwoman will either collect your parcels from your front door or a designated safe space and the service will be part of their daily round.

To use the service you have to book online (www.royalmail.com/bookcollection or via their app) - this can be done from five days in advance up to midnight the day before collection.

Customers will have to make sure their postage is paid for, print their own labels and then pay for the service online.

The charge for using the service is 72p per parcel, in addition to postage costs. Parcel Collect is also available for pre-paid return items at a cost of 60p per item.

This sounds a good idea especially for people in lockdown. I would imagine it will great for isolated properties too. Glad to hear RoyalMail is at last being proactive.
