Royal Mail to Raise Price of Stamps to Offset Losses

I hate them so much these prices kill small businesses.

Perfectly understandable when so much communication is electronic nowadays. I must admit I use hermes a lot of the time to save money but the letter post service is still good value I think for smaller packets. I never understood why they opened up the mail system to other companies, you lose some of the efficiency of scale and with electronic communication it was going to be a service reducing in volume anyway. The royal mail was actually delivery a high value service at the time it wasn't like the train network which was grossly uncompetitive and unreliable. So now we have to pay more for the letter post service as their other courier services don't generate the profit they used to as other competitors have taken a large slice of this more profitable business so they can no longer subsidise the letter post service. No doubt the next price rise isn't far away.

I already noticed they increased the price of 1st Class Signed and/or 2nd Class Normal either by 10p/20p.

1st Class Signed was £3.90, now £4. 2nd Class Normal was £2.80, now £3.

That small bump makes those prices less appealing, but sometimes they're still cheaper than Parcel2Go.

I have no problems with the rise at all and have never had an issue with their service. Considering you can get a letter from John O Groats to Lands End within 12 hours with first class all for 76p at the new price, then that's bloody good. I work for a small business and would choose them over other courier services any day, they're reliable, cheap and don't play football with our items. Everyone needs to make a profit and with fuel increases the cost needs to be offset somewhere

If any shop or any other business was to increase prices because their profits had dropped, they'd be laughed at. Do the Post Office not realise that the increase can only decrease the use of their services?

I dont think the prices are that bad considering the distance some things travel. Would cost a lot more in petrol and time if you was collect or deliver yourself.

Might be worth buying a few books of stamps. The stamps don’t show the price paid just 1st and 2nd class.

Good luck to them. Every time they hike up the prices, they say it’s necessary to keep them afloat. I have not used them for years - still have loads of stamps I purchased over a decade ago

Every time Royal Mail put up the price of stamps I look for ways to send less mail by post. I have greatly reduced the number of birthday and Christmas cards I send each year

I thought that they only just recently out their prices up! If I ever post a package I look for an alternative company like myHermes as they are normally good value and are tracked.

ROYAL FAIL we call it up here in Scotland.

Last time i posted a first class letter it cost me 14p so this is a bit of a shock for me!
